no doubt.I don't know what it is about the BTL's, but they are prone to issues no doubt.
I had my 18 installed maybe 3-4 weeks, only beat on it a couple times. When I pulled it out the spiders were already showing wear around the tinsels.I NEVER played under tuning period, never taken beyond its limits.Actually I think it got pushed to its limits maybe 4-5 times? I've never seen such a self destructive sub right out of the box like that. I've never had a problem with a sub like that before. Meh, oh well.
yes, this type of stuff is almost always user error. but when even the more experienced people are having problems just the same, it suggests something. and it seems its always " BTL" in the topic line, and its quite common. whats worse, is that no matter what you say, everyone will blame the user 100% of the time.
my tinsels burnt, and broke off a kx2500.1 ran @ 2 ohms. i initially thought it was a bad recone and the leads were cut to short. turns out it was reconed by TC sounds. somehow i doubt that a company like that would screw up a recone. with my btl, we're not even talking about high amperage either. we are talking about 2 ohms (before rise) where its mostly high voltage low amperage in a daily tuned box (33hz) with an SSF set @ 25hz.
something doesnt check out about these subs. if scott, or nick, wanders into this thread, please, dont take this as a bash against FI. i have owned 3 Fi woofers so far and loved them (besides the issue i had with the btl), and i got my buddy to buy 2 18" bl's as well. i got love for Fi. im just stating my observation here.
