This is what happens when ya run a 15" Loaded BTL on 3800 watts daily in a 4.25 @ 30hz box, your BTL gets a BTL

i dont understand how the btl's seem like one of the few drivers affected by the tinsel issue.

mine went out the same way, as have others. and i know i never played under tuning, and i had less wattage. i will almost always say its due to user error, but honestly, this seems like an all too common issue.

oh well, at least scott said they are going to use a new design for the tinsels on the newers fi subs. im assuming it might help out this issue.

yeah, i emailed Fi like a week ago about trying to get a Recone and still havent heard anything back, and they dont give you CA glue with ur recone kit anymore so i gotta find another place that sells it somewere

nick says to just use some 5 min epoxy.

yea, but hes giving it way more than it wants
honestly, yes he is. however, thats probably why his leads are burnt. them breaking is a completely different issue (99% of the time its user error, but we've seen so much of these, even with people only running 2kw amps in dialy tuned enclosures). i did the same off of 2.9kw (after rise it was probably in the range of half that).

IMO they should just go Woven with there tinsels, it sure would help alot of issues, but i know they wont
they are changing up how they will be setup soon. i made a thread about my tinsels breaking and they said they were going to go a different direction with the design.

never did say what that direction was though.

Yeah but i was amazed how completely jacked up the spider was, there are literally holes EVERYWERE, before i took the sub out of the box i knew something was fcked up because i could lightly press on the cone with my pinky finger and slight pressure and get it to move almost all the way in, it had almost no resistance at all

edit. . .

I run an IA 40.1 to each of my BTL 15's and they get hammered on a lot. The tinsels still look brand new. . .

I have a friend's RE SE 12 in my garage waiting for a recone kit. It was only run on 350 watts and they are fried. user error. . .

a broken tinsel lead is alomst alway due to overpower

especially when its burnt

so know matter how it happened i think that coil was overheated

Were those pics posted by someone else before??? They look like previous pictures where it was discussed the leads were cut too short by someone who reconed the driver other than Fi. The broken lead looks way too short. . .

I purchased the sub off a member of this forum, i dont know its history all i know is what happened to it after it got into my possesion, but the broken lead looks really short your correct, i can barely stretch it to the terminal and still have slack
