This is a post stricktly for me to refer people too, no one needs to reply its pretty much for my own use.

This is to be used for your trunk lid only, it will cost about 8 bucks and you will see a phenominal difference.

Basic cheap trunk rattleing solution:

1 can of triple Expanding Foam

1 can of Spray on Under coating

1 tube of caulking

Start by caulking the seams of the trunk lid bracing under the lid, let this dry for awhile 4 hours is usually good.

Next spray the cavities of the bracking with triple expanding foam. DO NOT COVER SPOTS WHERE YOU WILL NEED TO CHANGE BULBS WITH FOAM. That will make for a horrible time cutting the foam out. Let foam sit for 4 hours or so.

Caution- You will want to line the bottom of your trunk with garbage bags or some plastic sheets. The triple expanding foam will leak out of some some spots, and its a B to get cleaned off of the upolstry or even the paint.

Last spray the whole trunk lid with undercoating spray.

Once this is all done then sound deadening mat will only improve deadening more, but this is a good base to have under SD mat. This alone will give your trunk lid a nice hollow thump when you knock on it.

Here are some pictures to help you out with.

Thats why I dont plug any of the holes, so it has a place to expand out of. Ive never had it deform anything on me before. Ive done about 15 lids like that too.

People can reply if they want too, I dont really care //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

ok, I was just putting that out there, I had a friend do that with his door pannels and they ended up looking like bubbles on the outside.
LOL that sucks! I keep an eye on it too while its drying so if somehting bad was to happen I would catch it. I just couldnt possibly see myself letting that happen.

Ive never thought about doing it to doors too much gap to fill. This dosnt take much either just a couple of blasts down the inside of the bracing. You can also use just expanding foam too if you want, dosnt need to be triple.

sounds good.. but im definitely a little confused bout the process.. picture doesn't seem to clearly illustrate much

where did you actually put the caulk and also it doesn't seem like much foam was used.. is that right?

If your looking at the trunk lid you will see 4 triangles, the caulk goes around all of those seams. Look in that spot and you will see the caulking.

No only about 1/2 a can if even that was used.just enough to fill all of the cavities up.

When you get a can of expanding foam there is a plastic flexible tube on it about 8-10" long. Just stick that in the cavities and blast away. You can also buy a long piece of clear tubing and put it on the can if the one that comes with it isnt long enough.

I did something similar, only instead of expanding foam I used polyfill. Yeah, I'm stupid. That stuff soaks up water bad. Luckily I caught it before it did any real damage. Expanding foam is a much better choice.

i drilled holes every few inches and filled the "veins" up wiwht spray foam, not only does it allow you to fill the veins up eaiser, but it also gives the stuff a place to spread if needed.

yep yep now i see where the caulk goes.. okay so that's good, what kind of caulk did you use? never seen black caulk...

also I'm still confused I mean I see where you foamed and I actually have sealing foam called "Great Stuff' but right now the cap is actually clogged and I have no idea how to clean that out so I'll just pick up a new can...

to me tho, it looks as though there's a lot of spots you missed, or more spots you could've foamed but that's why I don't know what I'm talking about and you do.. just still curious what exactly gets foamed.. thanks for replyin

I forget what color the caulking was, I think it was what they use for windsheilds. Either way get the strongest most adhesive caulk they have. Give it a good squirt in between those cracks, no need to use sparingly.

The reason its black along with the whole underside of the lid is because of the undercoating spray, which is nothing more than a rubberized spray.

great stuff is what i used, but used no caulk.

You don't really have to fill up the open spots 100%, just enough to where there's a constant pressure inside the open spot (pushing it away from the other metal and stopping the rattling.)

ok the bracing tubes that the caulk is around, thats what you want to shoot the foam down. You can see a couple spots on the lid where it has come out and I chipped it away. The major space I didnt use foam was where there was wiring and where I may need to change a tail lightbulb.

Great stuff foam is what I used.
