Hey guys - new here, cool site

I just purchased 2 sets of the Infinity Reference 6822cf

2-way car speakers

For 5"x7" and 6"x8" openings.

I own a 2007 Ford Limited that they will be going into. I have some money to spare in the form of Best Buy gift certificates and was wondering which amp would properly push these speakers and at a decent price. I know that best buy isnt the greatest place for car audio but thats all i can do. Also, i am fairly new to upgrading car audio so I want to make sure I get the correct ohms and watts.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

You have to watch those Infinity speakers. The 682.2 cf claims to be a 2 ohm speaker, but in real life it is closer to 4 ohms. Why they marketed it this way, is beyond me, but they did.

Regardless, it looks like you are going to need 50 to 60 watts RMS per speaker. Since you have to go to Worst Buy, your options will be limited! The Alpine MRP-F300 should work out nicely for you! If I find anything better at Worst Buy, I will edit my post!

ETA:

This Infinity wouldn't be bad

Neither would this Kenwood

Personally I wouldn't buy anything from their Power Acoustik line!

Thanks much on the Infinity and Kenwood and also the heads up on the Power Akoustik.

lol I know - i would like to get fancy with all my stuff but with the economy and all...plus it will be a much better system than the stock thats in my truck now.

Anyway, thanks for the tip on the Alpine.

a 2 ohm speaker just draws more power out of a standard amp than a typical 4 ohm speaker, but if gunz is right the difference might not be as much as the amps' ratings indicate.

The alpine, for example, does 50w per channel at 4 ohms, but 75w per channel at 2 ohms.

The Infinity is 75/90. kenwood is 60/90.

FWIW - none of these differences are going to make a huge difference, but bonus power is generally a good thing.

I could dig up the email I received from a Harmon International.... but if you look closely at the directions, packaging, etc.... They will say 4 ohm compatible. The reason I was given was the impedance rise and the length of the speaker wire one uses will make them compatible with 4 ohm systems.

I think the "real" reason is that they aren't true two ohm drivers. I am going to check the DC resistance on my rear Kappas if I get a chance to yank them out of my Mustang this weekend just to verify that! My gut instinct tells me that the DC resistance will be in the 2 ohm range versus the 1.3 to 1.7 ohm range that a true 2 ohm driver would usually be in! I could be wrong, but I just don't see a 1.7 ohm DCR driver being 4 ohm compatible.
