Charging Optima in cold conditions

Im trying to charge my Optima Red top with my battery charger in my garage but it seem to be taking longer than normal.

Now one of my questions are would cold weather affect how my battery charges? The temps here have been in the 6-10 degree range. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Keep in mind though, the red top hasnt been used/charged since fall,it charged fine then, but the temps was more warmer.

Another question is would it be ok to charged the batt in the house(furnace room) since optimas are suppose to be ''sealed''?

FWIW: I use to charge my Yellow Tops in the basement of my old house with great success, but the room I would be charging it in now is about the size of a smaller bedroom,so idk if it would be safe

The colder it is, the longer it will take to charge. The first question I would have is what voltage is it resting at? Then I would ask what type of charger you are using? If it is less than 10a, it is too small. If your battery was below 10v, good luck bringing it back. Yes they can be charged in the house. You should ideally let the battery & charger sit inside without the charger connected for about 2 days to adapt to the warmer temp. Most modern chargers have temp sensors that adjust the rate of charge based on temperature. If your battery is colder than the charger, or vise versa, you will not receive a proper charge. Hope that helps.
