Sorry, once you have a bad MP3, there is nothing you can do.

Common thought, but not entirely true. Using a variable bit rate MP3 will use selective compression to reduce size without compromising sound quality. Try the software in my sig and compare for yourself.

I will try it, though I am afraid I'll like it and have to re-rip all my cd's.

For what it is worth, I have over 3,000 complete albums on my server. Once I rip a new CD to MP3, I never even take it out. If you get Maximum PC magazine, there is an interesting article this month on VBR MP3s compared to original CDs.

hmm... "in curiosity" what about the albums that are torrents? are those good quality? like album quality?

They're generally good quality. I get between 192-256 most of the time. Sounds good over my ipod.

Depends of course on how it was ripped. I have some hard to find stuff that I got via torrents, and thankfully most of the time it is of usable quality.
