Center Console w/ Sub Help

I hate being the new guy to a forum...

I have a 2004 Sierra 1500 extended cab, without the factory folding middle seat. I want a console for an armrest, and would like to include a sub, and a video monitor for the kids. Floor space in the rear is needed, so the console idea seems like a good one to me. The dimensions of the exterior are 22"x13"x17" (LxWxH). A single 10 or 12 is all that I am interested in.

I have a basic idea for the design, and will be building it myself. My background is pro audio, and I have a good deal of carpentry expierence. I understand how audio works, but have never built a box entirely before, just replaced a few baffles.

That was alot of typing to ask:

1) is it a good idea to put a sub in there?

2) is there a possibilty of magnetic interfearance with a video monitor in the back of the console? Thanks for any help.

I have a center console box in my truck (02 Explorer Sport Trac)

I really like it and it sounds a lot better than anything I could squeeze behind the seats. So as far as #1 goes if done correctly yes

#2 I don't have a good answer for, but just keep in mind if you mount your monitor to the console and the console has a sub it's going to vibrate the crap out of it and potentially lead to a shorter life span.

I honestly hadn't considered the vibrtion to the monitor. Thanks.

Can anyone assist me in determining how may cubic feet will be in the box? If my math was correct, it will be big, like about 2.81 before woofer displacement. How off am I? Thanks.

I came up with 2.81 also, but that is external so it will be a little smaller.
Wow, maybe I did figure correctly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I did know that would be external, but thanks for the FYI.

I haven't seen a sub that asks for a box this big. Should I plan on adding a "spacer" board to knock down on the internal volume? Most of what I've seen are asking between 1.0 and 1.5 cu ft. Thanks again.

Thanks, I saw that on the vid and didn't know what it meant.

Anyone have anything good or bad about the effects of a sealed enclosure that's larger than the manufactures reccomended size?

And to cover it, vinyl or paint? I want it to appear OEM as much as possible.

Update:

Built most of the console today. Changed the design as I went along, and long story short, I have just over 1 cu ft of internal space pre sub. So with displacement I should be right about on for most 10's that I've seen specs for. However, if it is still a little larger than specs call for, will I hurt the sub?

And we also designed a neat way to hide the monitor from "window shoppers" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
