it is the crossover that comes with the speakers. My CDT HD's were doing the same thing. I opened the crossover and found a blown capacitor and resistor. It can cause your speakers to blow so check it soon. I had this happen twice before I decided to go active.
My old one was a 78xx dont remember, but while in the highpassfilter if you held a certian button you could choose which frequency to emphasis, does yours have that?

Yeah, that might be the case, but im guessing its probably a HU issue, as my old speakers did the same thing, and they weren't even components.

Well, when i go into Treble settings, i can set it from -7 to 7, and next to it there is a frequency selector that you can set from like 1.0 to 1.75. Would that have any effect?

yes because if you can find the closest frequency band for guitars and bring it down into negatives, thats what i did for my old one
how do you have them aimed, I had a similar experience the very first time I built speaker pods, I had them aimed right at me, and that was a big no no with the CDT's, they were painful to listen to...

There is also the issue with the Midbass. The old speakers i had in there (MB quart Coaxils) would not put out any bass whatsover. They were coaxils.

Well, if it is definately something with my HU, i guess i have to go buy a new one then. Just wanna make sure first.
Highly doubt its your HU, how are the tweeters and mids aimed? (on or off axis?)
well if your h/u wasn't working from day one....then just drop by a local installer and ask to try another unit's rca's real quick and test out your speaks/amps....most places will let you for free if you're nice. my alpine is fine, and so is everyone else's....and so are my cdt's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
