I have CDT EF 61 cfi/tw24's running off of a Nine.2, and with rap and stuff, they sound good, but when i listen to rock or metal, they sound aweful. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif The best way to describe it is if I listen to a song by New Found Glory or something with alot of guitars, the guitars completely drown out the vocals, and everything sounds very muddy and mixed together, you can't tell the vocals from the guitars. It also sounds extremely harsh and absolutely kills my ears. I have my LPF set at 120khz, and my HU EQ off (if i have the EQ on, the music sounds so shrill and terrible it makes your ears bleed). My HU is a Alpine CDA 7893. I really don't know what the problem is. My old speakers did this too as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I REALLY hope u meant 120Hz instead of 120KHz...cuz yea....I have the same thing happening and I only have 4 stock BOSE 4.5"...they sound good but some guitars are really piercing...

All i can say its not the speakers, it has to be amp or headunit. if your headunit has a eq flat some of the highs and slowly bring different one up

Edit: isnt alpines known to accent the highs, i know mine did

yeah, i meant that. My HU Crossover can only set HPF at "flat" "80hz" "120hz' or "160hz". So does it sound like there is a problem at all? Also, when i send too much midbass through the speakers, they dont' distort but they make a wierd noise. I used to have MB Quart Coaxils running off the same headunit, and they as well sounded way too harsh and shrill, and had severe midbass isues (not putting out any bass, and they would distort like crazy if i sent them bass). Is it a HU issue? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Well, its not my amp because the amp is brand new, and i was experiencing similar problems with my MB Quart coaxils that were running directly off the headunit. I wish i could just bring it somewhere and have someone tell me why it doesn't sound right!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif All i can do with my Alpine HU is turn media xpander on and off, and set the HPF to either flat, 80, 120, or 160. Thats it.

And what could the HU possibly be doing anyways? When i first got the HU like 3 years ago, and got MB Quart Coaxils, it never sounded right even from Day 1. THe speakers could not produce ANY midbass at all, and my system had no punch to it. Stock systems sounded better than mine. And now it still sounds off for some reason. If i shut the sub off, the speakers dont' sound right at all either.

Im not going to clam to be an expert but yea, its ur headunit, all i have to say is stick in a cd and mess with all of the headunits settings
Well, like i said befoer, there is really not many settings i can change around with my HU. Ive had it on 80hz, and on 160hz, and still the same problem. If i turn on Media Xpander, it sounds like complete garbage.

All i know is **** alpine, this HU has never ever sounded right from the first day i bought it. I will never own another Alpine product after this one again.

o and somehow i bet you have more settings, alpine likes to hide good setting, and by holding certian buttons you get into more detail about the setting, read your manual, ive never used that headunit but i've owned 2 alpines

Believe me, ive played around for hours straight with the HU, and nothing fixes the midbass and off sounding mid problems, that i now have with a completely different set of speakers, that are wierdly in fact not even running off the HU, but an Amp? I don't get it at all!!

Then new alpines are nicer, i owned one from 2 years ago and it was harsher in the guitar frequency but after spending time on it i made them sound decent. Myold one, that i dont have anymore, i never had that problem

Could it be possible that the HU is just defective or something? Like i said, from the first day i got it, something didn't sound right.

Well, what could i mess around on it to make it sound better? The HPF on it doesn't help, it just turns off all the midbass if i set it too high.
