Cd player turns off when volume goes up

I have a Sony CDX-CA400 cd player HU hooked up to 4 small sony xplod speakers, nothing special, no subs, no amps, just a hu and speakers. If i try to turn the volume about half way up (past 14 or 15 out of 32), the cd player turns off and turns back on again, and will continue to do so untill the volume is turned down. i dont really like having the volume down that low, so can someone please tell me what is wrong here? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

does the fader control work? or are all 4 speakers wired to the front or rear channels of the deck? if this is the case it could likely be that you are running the deck at too low of impendance for its intended purpose and as you increase the volume are causing the deck's amp to go into protection.
