Cat v Dog....round one

How old is the cat? This is a very bad idea if the cat is older than a year. Some say a year and a half but that may be pushing it. Unless you look into laser claw removal, which has had better results with older cats.
Also, beagles are of pretty mild temperament. Depending on the cat they should be able to co-exist with only minor problems.
Declawing so it won't tear up my stuff...but it is getting better about clawing other things as it gets older. Not a big fan of declawing anyway.

Yeah I definitely understand the reason for declawing. I wish I would have declawed my cat when she was younger. But at the same time I am glad I didnt because she is such a chill cat. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

But it changes their temperament and even personality if you believe that about animals. And the older they are, the worse it gets from my understanding.

But their are also things you can do to help eliminate or at least curb their declawing. Foil on the furniture for a couple of days has worked for some people. Also a scratch pad and/or scratching post with catnip are excellent deterrents.

A little research if you get so inclined can tell you more I am sure.

My parents talked about getting my cat de-clawed for a while but seeing as she still goes outside quite a lot I wouldn't let them. I went out and bought a scratching post & pad and it most less broke her from using anything besides them.

The cat is not declawed, but will be when it comes to my house. The cat has a tendancy to tear up shit.
You might as well put the cat down if you are planning to declaw it. Not only are you robbing the animal of its only natural defense capabilities, but the cat will undoubtedly end up with psychotic tendencies. Declawing a cat is the worst thing you can do - period.

Now, introducing a new member to the family such as a puppy may actually tone down the cat's personality. I have seen this often. Take a high strung cat and introduce a kitten or pup, and the older cat begins to take on a mother/father-like attitude. It begins to nurture the youngster and in many cases, stops doing the awful things it once did.

I always get a kick out of watching a cat and dog wrestle.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As long as we keep 2 of these around the house.
