Carputer - Your Thoughts?

actually you can spend around $500 for a decent carputer and parts. $1000 is usually for nice carputers including add-ons, wiring, etc. it's usually cheaper to buy teh parts seperate and to buy used parts too, fyi. i'd like to see more pics of carputers over here as well but you can view the showoff sub-forum over at mp3car.com for installs.

*edit* also, the carpc in my sig, i bought for $400 used.

I have a feeling that I'd have to spend way too much to get what I want, lol.... as far as processing... not to mention the time I'd have to invest....

Maybe when I start getting serious after I've bought the caprice wagon...
the misconception of carpc's is that people use house pc's. wrong. you gotta account for power consumption, and decide how you wanna power it. (dc-dc controller, or inverter which adds noise to the system and are inefficient). but also, carpc's are not exactly gaming monsters, as games make the system work harder and draw more power and could kill the system. but the best thing to do is just look around and read up before you do anything and you might be surprised you might not spend as much as you thought. but g/l with everything and the people over there could help you out WAY more than i EVER can. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I would love to make a carputer.
The only problem I have with them is the longer boot times vs the navigation systems on the market.

If I could create a fully loaded one that has a boot time of less than 15 sec from a cold start (non-hibernating) than I would go for it.
Why not hibernate it? Mine comes out of hibernate in around 10 seconds.

I also have mine set to start when I remote start my car..so it's usually fired up and ready to go when I get in my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

xelleventybillion

Most people on mp3car will tell you that with my setup I went a little overkill, and I spent around $1000. You can build a nice setup for $7-800 w/ a touchscreen monitor.

That's what I've read.

I don't want gaming, sorry I must have been vague when I said processing... with that I ment active crossover networks and equalization.... as well as a badass dashboard to control everything from... time alignment would be good too. I also don't know what I'd need to interface my sirius with it...

IDK What all do yours offer for audio processing?

Not much.

I know of a few people that will pick up a sound card with an optical in and grab an Alpine 701 processor/controller combo and run it optical to the PC.

Change out the sound card, soundblasters **** for music, and creative's software will bog down your computer. Id go with an EMU 0404, or for cheaper a chaintech av-710.

I have one, I think its worth it if you can install it yourself.
