Will these subs require tons of recones as RE. I know, I know i'll catch a little $hit for this but its true. As with RE dustcaps blowin out, surrounds coming apart, spiders losenin and puncturing eyes and ears. Are you fellas gonna use better adhesives to secure these parts to your subwoofers?? Are you going to use stiffer spiders or lose spiders to control the cone movement? Just curious.
thanks

great questions. i am also concerned about this.

I've never seen any problems cept with 12MT's with a TON of power... as for dustcaps... that's why you use goop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

Oh well, we'll see.

The flat wind coils in the SSD do allow for more thermal power handling than the round wire. They do use a larger awg wire, 8 layers instead of 4, slightly larger OD... but in the case of the SSD, are 0.100" shorter reducing Xmax by a little over 1mm. But, for those that normally would need these, you would be using the subs in ported enclosures, in or around tuning (for SPL apps) and the minute loss in Xmax is far outweighed by the power handling and other increases. Only recommend it for daily users if they are running a dual purpose system (daily use with different power for occasional SPL comp).

As for MTs needing excessive recones, I have never been aware that it was an issue. We have had plenty of SPL competitors using obscene amounts of power with the same set of soft parts all season. Seems they have things dialed in. Others break stuff all the time no matter what they put in their system. I have noticed that once we do send out a recone to a competitor that they buy them more often... Im assuming that it could be to improper installation, or that they simply push the envelope harder now that they know how easy it is to repair things.

Not doing too much different on the BTLs. But we do have several options that reduce failires as well as a few new construction techniques that keep everything together. The pole chamfer does reduce pressure under the dustcap... at the same time forcing cooling air over the coil for increased power handling. Same goes for the full coolin option, but even more so. Lead wire failure should be a thing of the past with the BTLs as well. Coils will pop long before you run into burnt leadwires.

Our SSD and Q drivers use the older larger MT leadwires, while the BTL uses something MUCH larger than that.

We are working on MANY different things for Fi. When we have them ready to go, we will post them. New baskets for the BTLs are in the works as well. We will only have 12"-18" in the new baskets. This will allow for additional options as well as some other cool tricks that increase linearity. Quite a few other things that will be retrofitable via recones too to the 12 spoke basket BTLs as well.

Mids and highs are definitely included in the plans. But, we wont be giving any dates until they are ready to ship. Be aware that we are doing them... but Im not a fan of launch dates, preorders, or 6 months of hype.

Amps are not in our future. We dont make them, so we wont sell them. Too many issues that go along with amps... especially for SPL applications. I definitely do not want to have to have a separate line for repairing them, or worse... having to send them out for somebody else to do. Seen way too many issues from OEM manufacturers... their idea of "equivalent" is far diffrerent from mine. 85c caps are not equivalent to 100c, although they sometimes seem to think so. A chinese knock off is usually not equvalent to a TI chipset. First runs and protos go well... then they start replacing things with their "equivalent" parts and all hell breaks looose. This is not to say that it is the rule... but since we have little control over it, we dont want to deal with it.

Plenty of solid amps out there from both major manus as well as net guys.

We are teaming up with another major manufacturer that does carry amps... somewhat of a symbiotic relationship. We are happy with what can be accomplished with our subs and their amps.
