Car Wont Start...

id say put the cables on the car, give it a jump and test the output voltage from the alt again. if it reads right your battery is smoked.
Check your battery water... COuld be your difficulty right there. THe new charging equipment could have made the batt water boil /evaporate more quickly because of the extra stress/heat.

1 thing I noticed when my starter was going in my suv, I tried the hammer thing it didnt work the relay had gone in it and when this happens you car WILL start when it is cold or sat for a few hrs etc but you cant start it then run it and turn it off and try to restart it. If this happens get a new starter. Mine I went ok with mine for like 2 weeks just because i would start it and go to work, work all day then start it go to my other job work all night lol. Then would start all over again. So alot of starting.

this is all well and good but he said he had 7.xx volts comin off the batt. thats why its not starting.

Mine had 8volts to it when it happend becuase I never thought it was the starter to begin with but after testin everything thats how it worked out to be the relay

Battery most likely... Alternator maybe. Starter, maybe.

Your batt has obviously failed or needs to be maintained... The plates inside a wet cell need water to work. If it doesnt have it, they will not conduct electricity.

if you have 8 volts at the starter but 12 at the batt, it will be the solenoid or relay. if you have 8 volts at the batt, the batt is dead.

Could this just have been due to the face that its ~8 years old and a stock battery? Could it possibly not be able to handle the increased output of the altenator?
I`de say start with the battery n go from there. If it`s something else,ya got ya self a new battery.which sounds like ya needed a new one anyways.also when you get it started, disconnect the - wire from the battery and if it dies it`s either the battery or alt.*can`t remeber which one of the 2*

I got the car started by jumping it with my brothers and the alt was charging at ~11.23v at idle. I had adjusted the idle when I initially installed the alt and got it charging around 14.3 or so and apparently my brothers friend turned it back down because he said anything over 12v will kill all my electronics in the car... But its all allright now, I suppose I could still use a new battery though:)
