car sub to a home sub

a. yes it is labeled subb i dont know off the top of my head i think dual 4?
If it's DVC 4 Ohm then wire the coils in series to an 8 Ohm load (most common resistance used by most home component gear) and connect it to that output and see what happens.

I used to use a pair of Kenwood eXcelon 10s that are SVC 4 Ohm drivers with the pair series-wired to each other off of my Technics receiver and with the sealed enclosure they are in stuffed in a corner between a bookcase and a couch they sounded surprisingly good off of the 100w given them by the receiver's subwoofer channel.

You'll need an amp. The sub out (RCA) is just to send the LFE's to the sub. How would you power it off the receiver? If you connect it to any of the speaker outputs it'll receive a full signal and you don't want your sub trying to play high freqs.

Partsexpress has some solid budget plate amps, but most home stuff is designed to power at 4 or 8 ohms, so hopefully you can wire up your sub that way.

If the subwoofer output for your receiver is only a preamp output then no, it won't.

My Technics has both an RCA preamp output for a powered sub and a dedicated amp output for an unpowered sub. I forget sometimes that this setup is the exception rather than the rule. Sorry for the confusion //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

where could i buy a cord for that?
becasue it would have to be

speaker wire ---------> aux cord

The sub output is an RCA connection. You want to just run that to the sub? I wouldn't bother. The signal is very weak and needs to be amplified. However, if you are dead set on doing it, you could cut the end of the side of the RCA cable going to your sub, strip it back from the wires and connect it...but I advise against this, you will ruin a perfectly good RCA cable for nothing.

If you really want to hook up your sub to your home stereo, you should do it the correct way and get an amp for it and build a nice enclosure.

well thanks guys for teh help, i wanted there to be an easy way out........but the only way is about 100 dollars

Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Check avsforum and hometheaterguide classifieds as lots of guys have plate amps laying, so you can get them for dirt cheap, like $25, since most of them have stepped up to pro audio amps.

It'll be a fun project and probably be much better than what's in your tower speakers.
