Car Stereo Help/iPod support

Hey, I'm currently looking for a new stereo for my car, and one of the main features I'm looking for is the ability to play the music off of my iPod. Most of the stereos I've seen say the support wma/mp3/aac. Most of my music collection is in mp3 format, but some is m4a (Apple loseless). Is m4a an aac filetype? If not, are there stereos that play m4a?

I've been looking for a couple of days, but can't find anything that definitively answers either question, so any help would be awesome.

yes... when you hook up your ipod to a HU, whether it be through just an audio connection, or with an ipod controller, the ipod is still processing the actual file, and sending the audio signal to your HU. mp3/aac/wma on a HU specifically identifies what type of files that HU can process directly from reading a disc
