ok so heres the story, recently got a 200 amp irragi alternator brand new from Dom... hooked it up and it worked great for a day or so, then my car would die and wouldnt start again deck powers on/off and what not.... so i throw my stock alt back on and everything is fine..... heres the kicker the alt isnt bad, had it tested at auto zone and its 100% fine... so i took my car to work (i work at a car dealership/service place) and put the HO alt back in.... hooked my car up to the tec2 ( car computer tester ) and my cars PCM is shutting the alternater down to protect my elec system sooooo WTF... im thinking about sending the alt back for a refund and just gettin a yellow top unless u guys have any other suggestions... thanks in advance. BTW my car is a 1998 Lumina LTZ with the 3.8 series 2 engine, has a 105 amp stock alt. lemme know what i can do to fix this....

Unfortunately I don't think the engine computer on your model cannot adapt to the new alternator, you might as well sell it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Oh well, at least you get a yellow top out of the deal //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The car's engine computer is virtually tamper proof, as far as I know.

You should contact Dom to see if he's run into that before.
It kinda sounds to me like the car's computer programming needs to be altered to allow higher amps.
yea cuz that is what it said like 30 seconds after the car was on "alternater exciter deinitializing to protect electrical....."

next one was....

"vehicle voltage low inspect alternator.."

i don't think it worked at all, maybe you jsut didn't notice it becuase the batt was charged up enough to work without a charge for a little while

i've heard of bad alts testing as good, i worked at a used car dealership for a while and a cars battery was dead so we put a new one on it only to find that it was the alt, we had it tested and the battery/alt/starter place said they could'nt find anything wrong with it, it wasn't charging though, turns out it had antifreeze all over it and thats why i wouldn't charge they cleaned it for 10 bux and it worked

they may be able to reflash his pcm, just like they do with sports cars that dont come with z rated tires from the factory...the pcm governs vehicle speed at a certain number, but if u get z rated tires, u can go to the dealership and they can reflash it for u so that there is no governor

it doesn't sound like something they can do from the dealer
As far as I'm aware they can only flash the PCM with an updated OEM version of it, if there is one.

This is why I think you should just sell the alt, ctminime. Get a yellow top //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
