Car alarm install

I'm shopping for an alarm and I'm considering doing the install myself. Does anyone know what all is required? How complex compared to an amp/sub install? Please be detailed; don't just say "it's hard" or something like that.

You will be dealing with alot of wires. There is many different lock set ups. They all trigger different ways. There is many wires for determining when a door is open and many wires to flash the lights and everything. In short. Try using the12v.com.

It's really not THAT hard. If you've wired in a head unit you can wire an alarm. the12v.com is the best, and just take it one wire at a time.

Make good connections, ie solder and heatshrink wrap.

Very car dependent. Some cars are fairly straight foward. Some you have to go into the driver door to acquire factory disarm and some you have to locate wires in the passenger kick.. For the most part all of the work is done at the ingnition harness in the steering column. Although you will have to locate the door trigger wire/dome supervision, lock and unlock wires, parking lights and your factory disarm wire if your car calls for it. What car do you have ?

Honestly, I have done pretty much everything myself except for the alarm. I didn't want to waste my time doing it and then there being problems. If you know a lot about wiring, relays, taking your dash a part...go for it. But otherwise, take it to a shop and pay the $200+ bucks for a decent install.

I have a 2004 Chevy Blazer. It was broken into last night, so there are $500 in repairs and replacement of stolen goods on top of adding an alarm. That's why I'd like to avoid installation fees if I could. I'm pretty savvy with wiring and dismantling and reassembling my car.
