i am leaning on the edge of picking up an XPS 1330 for about $800 just cause i want to be current

Tuxedo black

T5250 1.5/2mb

4Gb DDR2 667

13.3 screen

120Gb HD

Vista Home Premium

DVDRW

Integrated SB Audigy

3945 WLAN

Big battery option (not the standard small)

1yr warranty

for my laptop computing needs which is basically just web browsing at wifi hotspots around the city i just cant justify it though

i also feel much better about bringing my $300 Dell to these places rather than a $800 Dell just in case something gets spilled on it or something

well 7.2K drives are cheap... and worthwhile imo.
If they get really cheap or theirs a sale I'll just snatch one up.

I really like this Ultrabay thing though. When Blu-Ray drops in price (whenever that is) I can just buy one and plug it into the slot.

I want as much battery life as i can get.

got my 1210 about when the 1330 came out because they were cheap and i would rather have a 12" to tote.

I'm finally getting around to swapping out the 5K HDD with a 7.2K 16meg cache drive today //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

5.4
I'm not going to be doing many tough tasks with it, mainly iTunes, DVD Ripping, Office and stuff like that.

Didn't see a need. I'll wait the extra 3 seconds or so it takes to load up a program. I don't care.
if your transferring large amounts of data (like DVD ripping ect) you will probably see a need..

i'll guess I'll just see how long it takes. If it takes too long, I'll buy a 7200rpm drive. If i don't care, i don't care!

I;'m liking this ultrabay deal. I'm lookin on ebay, and I think I may pick up a DVD burner for cheap. Integrated graphics wont handle Blu-ray apparently, so no point in getting that. Besides, not worth 30 dollars a movie anyway.

The extra battery looks cool too.

Example :

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

and i think with the new 7.2 drives battery life difference is negligble...

besides if you want max battery life why didn't you get a 9 cell batt?

6-cell is as big as they get for the R series. The biggest thing i will be copying is probably a 2.5GB movie file.

I'm not too worried about 25gb worth of stuff. My current laptop has 20GB hd space, so as you can tell, I operate pretty low key.

and I meant buy a internal HD.

just a comparison...same folder and files... just two 7.2k drives instead of a 7.2 and a 5.4

25gigs isnt that much.. its really only the CDs i own and ripped.. some photos... and all my school work for the last few years... no video at all..

25 gigs is a lot to me. Like i said previously, I'm working with a 20 gig HD (no external, no nothing, only 20), and since i have office and windows and the formatting, I'm left with about 13 to work with. So 25gigs is a lot to me.

Should I ever have to copy that much shit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif, I will buy an INTERNAL 7200rpm drive. Simple as that. Right now, I'm not too worried about it.

FWIW, I switched from a 7.2k drive to a 10k drive in my desktop a while back and the time it took to open a 4.7gb file dropped a lot, from about 10 seconds to about 3-4 seconds.

However if your ripping a dvd it is only going to rip as fast as the cpu(if you're encoding) or optical drive can rip it anyway, the hard drive won't be the limiting factor.

Since most external drives are 5400 rpm anyway you wont save time backing up from your laptop to an external either

The only difference your going to see is if you copy and paste large files to the same drive, different partitions on the same drive or if you open large zip files or programs frequently and even then you are only saving a few seconds her and there.
