capacitor

first do the big 3

if that doesn't work get a battery (optima's are easy to find and fairly inexpensive)

then get a H.O. alternator

if that doesn't work, your running a rediculous setup and need to check your hearing...

actually you should just try putting multiple batteries in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Man this is always a fun subject, huh?

I think it is funny he posted he is running three subs, and no one has asked what amps. He could be running 50 subs, and if he only has a 100 watt amp, he don't need squat. And two screens? Last time I checked you did not have to do the Big 3 for two screens. . .

I will add: I have two yellow tops and a 250 amp alternator. Without 5 farads of cap, serious lights dimming with music that has fast beats (80's music). With 5 farads of cap, no lights dimming. BUT, heavy rap music or testones, with or without caps doesn't make any difference in my system.

Two screens? What's showing? Do you need a cap for the popcorn machine? Do you charge $18 a head for a freeking ticket to see one of your shows?

i sometimes listen to my system while the car engine is off (when washing my car or when i hang around with my friend by the roadside... etc etc etc), so should i get a 500 farad cap or a 50 farad cap or an extra battery or 2?

Cap will do absolutely nothing for listening while the car is off.

You need deep cycle batteries. If you are going to listen until the batteries are run down, you also need an isolator so only the deep cycle batteries will run down. . .

i've read somewhere before that a cap would work better together with an oscillator... i've read how an oscillator work but still didn't understand anything about it... so what is an oscillator? how does it look like? does it really help the system?

The short/simple version:

Caps do not make energy, they only store it. If you used a cap only without the car running, the cap would quickly discharge, and the system would shut off.

An isolator is for a multiple battery system. It "isolates" the additional battery from the rest of the car's electrical system while still allowing the the car's alternator to charge it (like a diode or a one-way valve). So, you have you stock battery up front under the hood, and a couple of deep cycle batteries in the back. You connect these deep cycle batteries to your car through an isolator. You then connect your stereo to the deep cycle batteries. You wash your car listening to the radio and the deep cycle batteries get low. The isolator prevented the car's starting battery from going down (the radio was only running on the deep cycle batteries), so you can still start your car. When you start the car, the deep cycle batteries begin to charge back up. Since they are deep cycle batteries, it does not hurt them to run them down like it does a standard battery. When they are charged back up, you can shut the car off and start the process over.

1) so an isolator is the same as an oscillator?

2) having two extra batteries is better than one extra battery right? but two extra batteries will also give more stress to the alternator than one extra battery, am i right? so in the long term, which will do more damage? 2 extra bat or 1 extra bat?

Just upgrade your alternator and dont listen to your music while you're washing your car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif .
