You ground the amp as you would normally with it's own ground. Then also the cap's ground with it's own ground. Your 12 volt power wire goes to the postitive on the cap. Use a 12 volt light bulb or test bulb in series with the power wire to the cap to charge it. If you don't have anyway to charge it you can just hook up the power right to it. That's not recommended but it will work. Once that's all done you run a power wire from the cap to the positive 12volts to your amp.

 
hooking up a cap without a lamp or resistor is a 50/50 shot

most of the newer caps with digital displays have a built-in charging system

but if you hook up an older cap, or a newer one that doesn't have a built in charging system, it WILL ruin it
