Can't hear my subs

I have a pair of 8's in a small sealed box on about 250 watts. With the trunk lid closed I can't hear them, with it open I can hear them just a little. From inside the trunk they're pretty loud. Dunno what to do about this and it's bumming me out big time.

The install looks like this:

There's a carbon filter in my rear seats, to the trunk. It's basically a hole (no restriction):

Here's a key piece of info: They were working well before I installed 6X9's for rear fill in the deck. I figured that being right behind the seats would give a clear path to the cabin for the subs. Apparently that ain't so.

The rear fill adds a whole new dimension to the system and I love them. What are my options other than removing them?

Thanks

Have you tried turning the box around so they fire toward the back of the trunk?
^^^This^^^and approx 4-6inches from the trunk lid latch side, and turn/tune the 6x9 down ,,,build a ported box for those subs, you may/should get more potential out of them being in a sealed trunk space..just my experience/opinion

I can certainly try turning them around, though I don't understand the logic in that. Relocating them is not an option I want to persue, as this is a daily driver and the trunk gets used a lot. This box fits perfectly in the space I have available. It's hard to see in the photo but the trunk floor spare tire lid is only an inch from the back of the box. A ported box for these would need to be quite a bit bigger.

Could be several things, but moving the enclosure around would be the first thing to try. It will change how the subs "load" in the area given and change the characteristics of the response curve and over all volume.

Double check your wiring too to make sure you have them wire up correctly. Sounds stupid, but things like that some times slide by with out being noticed.

I would check the wiring as Rabbit said and also play with the sub locations. Honestly though, 2 8"s with low excursion and sealed off of only 250 watts is going to be hard to get "loud" in a trunk. That isn't much power and not much air movement either. I would have used a ported box for sure if that was my only option.
