Cant handle daily/weekly stress... :(

a-fucking-men. i don't think weed's too bad as long as you don't let it become a habit. it helps to take my mind off of shit and just relax.

i'm in the process of trying to quit cigs, i cut down to about a pack a week from 1-2 packs a day. it's not really hard to go without it if you can get your mind off of it. sunflower seeds and gum, etc. do help sometimes. so does working out, lets off a TON of stress. just gotta keep your mind busy so you don't think about it. whenever you think about dipping or smoking, just tell yourself no and put your mind on anything else...no matter what it is. if you don't think about it, you won't want it.

but the same thing doesn't work for everybody, you just gotta do whatever works for you. i need to go buy a punching bag, they work wonders when you're really stressed.

 
I have recently stopped my nicotine intake from 2 a day which is about a can a week which in turn is about $2 a week down to 0. I have only been "sober" for a week and i dont think i can cope with the stress of everyday normal activities... This thread is not to make anyone "feel bad for me" or anything like that. I just think its weird how things such as nicotine, beer, and mary-jane can remove stress. I have a hard time remembering a time where if i were feeling bad, a nice beer +bowl+ dip=/=complete happiness.
Now, without those substances, in a time of need, what is something to do to stay mentally sane? I have heard hobbies will do that, or at least help, and i do enjoy playing guitar and drums, car audio, playing soccer, and playing basketball, but those things cannot happen at any time of day.

I am not really the most depressive person. Most people that know me would say i am chill, and happy for the majority. I am very non-violent, like to thing logically, and keep things very neat and organized. Downside is i have a very addictive personality. I am proud to say that i do not used any other substances other than nicotine alcohol and THC in the past ~2years.

What does a non-addict do to keep sane?

Ain't too much that puts a strain on me, That's the reason I had to put the blame on me. I'd rather let them dolla bills rain on me, then let them hata's make a name off me...

Good genuine friends always help, I do smoke but not because of stress. I've been through a lot of shit but I'm used to it and don't let much bother me... I guess I'm used to it.

 
Sunflower seeds are your best bet. Especially for a dipper as they keep your mouth busy and that's an important part of the mental game.

I started smoking ciggs and dipping (one or the other, never both at the same time) when I was 13-14, about the time everybody else starts. I'm in my 30's now and I tell you that so you can see where I go with this.... It's hard to see the future when you are younger, nearly impossible really. There's only two ways to learn..... Learn by your mistakes or learn by someone else's. You gotta really want to hear someone if you intend to learn by someone else's because without experience the imagination can't really grasp the reality of a situation.

Though I have never done drugs, a close family member has been doing them since WAY before I was born. I somehow got lucky and paid attention to his life and lifestyle before I got myself into trouble with drugs. I dunno what made me be so observant to his situation and take heed, but I got to learn from someone else's mistakes ahead of time and thank god for that every day.

First of all, this ain't no public service announcement. You can smoke every day of your life and live to be 70 so I don't buy into this "Mary J is bad it'll kill you" B.S. The long term effects of addiction are lifestyle and income.

If you smoke the J you spend $40 a bag twice a week on average. If you smoke for a year that's $80 a week for 52 weeks = $4,160.00 a year. If you smoke for ten years you have spent $41,600.00 in a decade on JUST smoke alone. Chances are if you smoke pot for ten years, you'll smoke till you die. You are likely a lifer stoner. 50 years times $4,160.00 = $208,000.00

Here's where the problem comes in. Some people may say "I THINK I can absorb $4,000 a year on this habit and still get by". Problem is that you also smoke ciggs. $4 a day for just one pack times a week = $28 a week x 52 weeks in a year = $1,456.00 a year in ciggs and you'll smoke till you die so times 50 years (we assume you are already near 20 so add 50) = $72,800.00

Now.... by just smoking a pack of smokes a day and two $40 bags a week you have cost yourself, and your future family, $280,000.00 that could have put your kids through college 5 times, or bought and paid for your fairly nice house in a medium income neighborhood, or bought you ten cars to put in your driveway, or whatever else. ASSUMING you only smoke 1 pack per day. If you smoke your old lady smokes as well when you live together for 50 years. Wanna double that number?? That's how much money you spent together on your habits. Half a million dollars spent on NOTHING. It's gone.

Now right this moment if you are young you think "hey I'll go over to Jims and smoke out of his bag" or "we all know each other so we get bags for $30 instead of $40". Guess what...... eventually (and it won't be long) everybody grows up, gets married, has a job, a life and don't have TIME to hang out smoking with you.

Now you're a just addicted to smoke, you smoke alone, it isn't fun anymore, you constantly have to worry about drug testing because you have a REAL job now that pays your bills and supports your family and real jobs drug test. You constantly worry what would happen to your family if you got caught and fired, or if you get pulled over and get a possession charge nobody will hire you except taco bell. Now you have a crap job, a kid to pay for, and a $4,000 a year habit that used to be fun, but you smoke alone so it is not fun anymore, it's an addiction that bugs the hell out of you and affects your lifestyle.

I watched my family member make $18 an hour through the 90's which was good money, dang good money through the 90's...... and barely scrape by because he spent $6500 total per year on smoke and ciggs and when you are taking 1/7th of your income and tossing it in the trash can every year things tighten up when you run a budget and pay for 2 kids.

So forget that "drugs are bad for you" bullshit they feed you every time you turn around and let's get to the reality of the situation....... you can smoke 70 years and still see the 71st birthday if you lungs can take the extreme tar intake. The pot won't kill you.

...........but your LIFESTYLE will be affected your entire life. Your stress will rise, you'll spend tons of money on your habits instead of your HOBBIES. You will piss away at LEAST $200,000.00 on NOTHING. Your buddies are not going to be there to smoke with you when you get older, they'll be working their *** off to pay the bills as well and you're just a lonely pot addict. This doesn't stay fun forever.

Another thing, the said family member that has smoked for 4 decades can't remember shit. You may smoke for ten years, or even 20 and just be a "little bit stupid", but if you create this life long addiction by the time you burn out you'll be dumber than a bag of shit. Everybody knows what an old stoner looks like.

The longer you do anything, the harder it is to stop. You live for about 75 years on average. If you are 25 and you've only smoke for 7 years or 8 or 9... that's NOTHING. It's a drop in the bucket, you have your whole life ahead of you. STOP NOW and you can enjoy the rest of your life and spend the money on something else. You won't have to put name tags on your grandchildren when you're 50 to remember their names.

It's all about LIFESTYLE. Future things it's just hard to see when you are younger. When you are young, anything goes. I used to sleep in the back of my truck for 4 hours a night building my system in it. Man I'm in my mid 30's and my old lady would kick my *** if I tried that, plus..... the hell with sleeping in a truck I'm getting old.... I won't be able to move my friggin neck in the morning if I tried that. I'm just not INTERESTED in sleeping in a truck to finish a system anymore. The same way I am not interested in playing with GI Joe like I was when I was ten.... My mind had a chemical change, I don't care for it now.

Shit changes.................... Lifestyle means everything. You'll find yourself wanting a "comfort level" of constant in your life as you get older. Less drama, less stress..... don't feel like dealing with it for the 34th year in a row, "F that... I'm tired of it.... give me peace" You need this lifestyle to be calm and smoother than before. It's a chemical and physical change within your body. Your desires change, your needs. You don't "feel" like dealing with the same shit you did at 20. Your tolerance level for B.S. drops to nill. Know why old men are pissy and gripey? It started about 30, they've just worked their way into the complete ******* package over the last 30 years of drama after they passed 30. If you are 40 years old running to the store for some vinegar and test pure and crossing your finger you pass the drug test so your wife and kid can eat next week, you will reflect back on this post 20 years from now and think "Dang, no lie".
