Can't decide between options...

I think I'm just gonna make a plan old rectangular/cubed box laying on the seat behind the passenger side and leave one seat open for a passenger. Sure it will be a really plain install and really tacky, but I don't care that much about it, I can give each sub 2.5 cubes after displacement and it should wang. Unless I happen to roll the truck or flip it, god forbid, the box won't be in a dangerous position. If i did slam the brakes it would either hit the back of the passenger seat and fall or just fall over onto the floor. Behind the back seats there are metal brackets built into the bodywork that I will run strap to to keep the box in its place. I live pretty much in the country and stealing isn't a big problem here, and at school the parking spots are right in front of school where I can see my truck pretty much from any classroom and my school is in the middle of a suburb area so I'm not worried about someone stealing it. I keep my truck locked everytime i get out of it when I'm not gonna be around.
Another question....what would be a really sweet place to mount the amp. It's a herc so finding room will be tough. 11" x 22" x 2". I want it to show somehow so that people can see the hifonics glow at night.
you just said it here, it will be plain and tacky!!! I could care less how you want it but I was just saying you should do it the right way first. I'm sure there are other options. Whats wrong with a nice set of 8's then behind the seats? And no i wont go buy a Tacoma, American made here all the way

Because I have a pair of 12" Type Rs sitting in my room and I'd rather have a "plain and tacky" install than sell them for 8s.

Ok guys, if you can find me a clean install for 2 type R 12s here, I'll use it if it works out. Here are pics of the area I have to work with. Mounting depth is about 8". The length/ of the back seat from end to end is about 49-50". The length behind the seat is about 46" I would guess.

Sorry some of the pics are blurry but you should be able to read the measurements.

If you can come up with ANY ideas for a clean install, let me know either here, through PM, or AIM - LilKB450.

bump.....some of you want to tell me i'm doing a ghetto install that will look like crap but when I try to ask for ideas/help so that im NOT doing a ghetto install you don't respond. about right.

hope that isnt directed at me.

i'd justa glass it and be dont with it.

,make is strong, and cover it woth carpet, and make it sealed.

you want to know how, PM me, i'd be glad to help you

click kenny pollock in my sig for my glass log.

u have way more space than i have in my ranger and i have 3 jl w310's behind my seats.......i once had type arrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh's
yea....did you have 12" rs or 10s?

I think I can just barely squeeze in the 2 12s behind my seat....it's gonna be tight tho. and they might hit the seats when they hit their xmax.

Bump.

I looked more into it today, and under the seat is not an option for the subs. Good mounting place for the amp though. I thought I'd be able to do behind the seat, but I found out that it's gonna take some modification to the seats and the measurements have to be dead on or the subs magnet will rub against the inner back board of the box.

**** I should have gotten 10s.

Your best bet is to glass the back wall so it is the exact shape and form of it. The front of the box where the subs would be mounted use two pieces of MDF and counter sink the subs so they are protected from the seat. may take a little of time to do but once done it will be clean and out of the way of everything. Just draw it out and measure a bunch to make sure you can fit everything

With the sub hitting your seat during the xmax, are the back of your seats carpet go in at all when you push on it? If anything you get some covers for the subs so they wont hit the seat when they hit their xmax

I drew something up on Sketchup to show yall exactly what I'm working with here.

I just don't think I could get it to work. the Rs need about 7" internal depth after you figure in 3/4" MDF for mounting then they need another 1" outside of the MDF. I'm not worried much about the xmax, I'll buy covers. I'm just trying to figure out how to get enough mounting depth.

I can remove the plastic covers behind the seat and cover the space with carpet to give me maybe another 1/2" and some flexibilty. I can also throw 1/2" of metal spacers or lock washers in the seat bracket bolts to hold them off some more.
