Can't decide between options...

OK, I'm building a sealed enclosure for 2 12" Type Rs on the back seat of my truck. I have 2 options so far. here they are:

Option 1:

Option 2:

Ok, if i built number 2, I would have only room for one person to sit but I could give each sub 2-2.5 cubes and it would be less "in the way". If I built number 1 i could have room for 2 people but i'd only be giving each sub 1-1.5 cubes after displacement and it'd be in the way a lot. any opinions?

why put it in your back seat>

pull them out, or fold them up
I am lucky as hell to get a truck this new at my age (16) so i'm not pulling anything out of it, and it is a 4 door crew cab not an extended cab. the back seats don't fold up.

Is your back seat a solid bench seat or a 60/40 split?
60/40 split.

A popular alternative in my truck (explorer sport trac) is to convert the 60 into a 40 so you have dual 40's with a 20 section in the middle. Then make a dual box that fills that 20 section.

That does sound like a clean idea but that would probably get pretty expensive with all the upholstery work etc etc. Plus I have storage compartments under my seats so It'd be a ***** to work it out and actually make it look clean.

You can pull the seats out, store them, and always put them back in when you want. Right now, in my silverado, my back bench has been pulled out, storing it in the shop (maybe going to make it into some sort of a bench), and I always have the option of putting it back in if I want to.

Actually, this thread was not to give me a new idea, but to give your opinions on which of the two i should build out of the ones i provided. thanks anyway

i wouldn't do either, just having them sit there on the seat would be tacky as hell, not to mention hella easy to for someone to steal. u should have got some 8's or 10's if u had so little space. but if u cant take out the middle section and put em there thne that'l prolly eb your best bet.

i do the same thing in my ext. silverado. its pretty easy to take out my setup and drop in the seat if i need to. prolly takes 10-15 minutes at the most

I think I'm just gonna make a plan old rectangular/cubed box laying on the seat behind the passenger side and leave one seat open for a passenger. Sure it will be a really plain install and really tacky, but I don't care that much about it, I can give each sub 2.5 cubes after displacement and it should wang. Unless I happen to roll the truck or flip it, god forbid, the box won't be in a dangerous position. If i did slam the brakes it would either hit the back of the passenger seat and fall or just fall over onto the floor. Behind the back seats there are metal brackets built into the bodywork that I will run strap to to keep the box in its place. I live pretty much in the country and stealing isn't a big problem here, and at school the parking spots are right in front of school where I can see my truck pretty much from any classroom and my school is in the middle of a suburb area so I'm not worried about someone stealing it. I keep my truck locked everytime i get out of it when I'm not gonna be around.

Another question....what would be a really sweet place to mount the amp. It's a herc so finding room will be tough. 11" x 22" x 2". I want it to show somehow so that people can see the hifonics glow at night.

so your willing to do a ghetto install and have it look like crap but you wont pull the seats so its done right? I'm sure there are other options out there so you can have full use of your rear seats, and look clean. Do you already have the type R's? I would highly suggest you do it right the first time, especially with a nice truck

Ok, how about you go buy a Tacoma and try to find a clean, cheap way to mount 2 12"s. It's not as easy as you think. You are talking like I'm laying the subs free air on the floor and hooking them up to an amp laying on the seat. It might not be some unbelieveably clean show award winning enclosure, but I will build the box as well as possible and make it look decent. Behind the seat, no room for anything bigger than an 8. Removing the seats? There are molded metal storage compartments built into the floor that I would have to hack into and I would also have to fix the carpet I'm tearing up as well, and even if I cut the rear floor down to completely level, if I built a riser box tall enough for 12"s, anyone over 5'8" would be nailing their head on the ceiling. So removing the seats is either a big money pit, or if I lay the box on top of the storage compartments I would only gain maybe 4" extra room to build a box.

If you think I decided from the beginning to lay the enclosure on the seat, you're wrong.
