can you ground second battery on frame?

From what I understand , connecting a second battery consist of running the power wire from the pos terminal of first battery.. to the second. now the question is, do I have to ground the second battery to the first battery ? or can I just ground hte second battery on the frame. (plan on putting battery in trunk) thanks!

Yes, At minimum a chassis ground is need. A frame ground is better.

you need to isolate the second battery too, not just connect the pos of the front battery to the pos of the back.

also circumstantial. unless you intend on running the system with the car OFF you do not need to isolate. it can be done either way, but it adds resistance

copper conductivity > steel. That is a fact.

A vehicle chassis/frame is a piss poor ground compared to a piece of 1/0 copper wire.

edit, but it will work fine. I'm just splitting hairs really.
