Can you find this amp?

I was gonna say a used Boston acoustics gt-50 off eBay would be perfect, they can even be mounted upside down.
I like the amp, I like the brand.. Looks aren't a priority at all for me. The amp will be hidden.. mostly because it's the look I want.. the entire system besides the headunit obviuosly will look stock (like nothing was ever put in the car.. while in the car).. Plus, it never hurts not to have huge amps and subs for passerby's to glance in to tempt them.. Even though I have the darkest legal tint on the car.. so it's not easy to see in it.

I had a headunit and a 350watt kenwood amp stolen out of my 300ZX years ago.. in a good neighboorhood.. so that stuff happens everywhere. Odd thing is this was a good, residential neighborhood.. and I was deep into it, and whoever took this stuff had professional lock picking/popping tool(s).. as the doors were not fully closed, and I always locked it. Meh.. was a long time ago.

That BA, GT-50, is 55 watts x 4, and 250watts x 1 -- My 100watt fronts and 300 watt sub would obviously run with less than full RMS power.. I'm looking to hit them with their rated power.

I think with my budget it's probably going to be , starting anyway,.. the components up front, and the sub -- then 1 amp to drive 2 , 100watt speakers x 2.. and the sub 300watts x 1. The CT Sounds amp .. 125.4:

Ct Sounds 125 4 Amp Amplifier 125W RMS 250W Max Class A B 4 Channel 2 Ohm | eBay

Really seems like the best fit for the 3 speaker setup. No one has said it's a piece of crap,.. I am patient, no rush on this obviously.. but that's a fair amount of clean power for the money.. and gives headroom which I like.. should help keep temps down on the amp not running at full gains.. I'll have it mounted (if it fits) in the glovebox compartment BEHIND the passenger seat,.. or if need be under one of the seats.

Then I guess if I go with the MB quarts in the rear slots.. at a later time I can pick up a 75x2 amp for fairly cheap.

Just running the 100watts x2 and 300watts x 1 on my stock alternator and battery shouldn't pose any issues right? Just threw a new battery in it a few days ago (took out the 6 year old factory battery).

Interesting amp. Def. would need to go used on this to fit in budget.

The power is there on it,.. Class D can really pack power in a tight package for less money.

Which makes me wonder -- just how much difference is Sound quality with a class D on your front stage vs. A/B amp? I've heard it's a huge difference, don't do class D for anything but a sub.. and I've heard most normal people can't hear an audible difference.

I would suggest going with the PDX-V9. If you get it you would have the extra channels if you decide to get two more speakers in the rear and if its too much on the sub you can always turn the gain down. On Amazon its $420 if you want it new. It is a solid amp and doesn't get very hot or take up much space. Good luck with your setup!

Looked at all those amps. The only one that produces the power I need is the Alpine PDX -- it's expensive compared to the $225 or so for the CT sounds 125x2 and 380x 1 RMS amp I was planning on going for.

The other amps are under 100watts RMS, and under 300Watts for the sub channel. I understand you do not have to run full power to your speakers,.. but I do. Call me picky, but I am going to run 100 watts RMS to my 100watt rms fronts, and 300watts to the JL 10" sub.

So that really just leaves that MSRP $750 (New $420 amazon) Alpine PDX.

The Alpine would allow me to throw in the two MB Quarts I have in the rear slots given it has 100watts x 4 + plenty of power on the 5th channel for the sub.

But again -- What's the real truth on Class D amps? I want sound quality.. And I'll happily go with just the 2 fronts and the sub for a class A/B amp I can afford (it's a 2 seater car) IF Class A/B has superior SQ.

If Class D amps , particularly that Alpine PDX-V9, is as good as the A/B quality or better then I will strongly consider putting out more money for it.

What makes me wonder about the A/B vs D class argument -- is , in general, class D amps are cooler,.. generally watt for watt cheaper than A/B amps. If they were as good as A/B or A amps.. everyone would buy Class D.. and A/B amps would be essentially obsolete.

So what's up?

Sound quality is going to be more dependant on install rather than your choice of amp IMO. I wouldn't stress that standpoint too heavily unless you're gonna have custom pods, lots of deadener, etc., just don't go with Boss or some BS like that and you should be fine. I'd second the PPI amps myself, they have plenty of options available that I think would suit your needs, especially if you're trying to keep the size small enough to fit behind the seats.

EDIT: ...and here you go. PC640.4 - Power Class - Amplifiers - Products has the power/space requirements you're looking for, is in stock, and pretty close to your budget.

The American bass ph 5100 fr is 120 rms x4 at 4 ohms and 800 rms x1 at 1 ohm 400 rms at 2 ohms if you have a good 1/4 inch under the amp for ventilation it won't get hot. It's also class ab on the 4 channels and class d on the sub channel.

I like the PC640.4 -- It's a little less powerful than the CT Sounds,.. and a touch more money.

Which would you go for here?

Ct Sounds 125 4 Amp Amplifier 125W RMS 250W Max Class A B 4 Channel 2 Ohm | eBay

Or

PC640.4 - Power Class - Amplifiers - Products

With both of those amps it's the 2 fronts, and bridged channel 3/4 for the 300Watt sub RMS.

Is the PPI worth the extra 50 bucks or so? Or are they about the same in quality?

Like the specs for American Bass PH5100 5 Channel Amplifier

For the most part.

It says 800watts for the 5th channel at 1 ohm. The Sub I am running is JL 10" W0,.. which is a 4ohm sub, .. Can that 800watt last channel be run at 4ohm.. and if so would that back it down to 200watts? Or is it locked at 1ohm?
