Can underpowering subs damage the subs

Why would running half the max power to a sub, cause any damage? That's like saying... will it damage my amp if I only run it at 2 ohm instead of 1 ohm.

Don't clip the subs, and all is good.

like said above you will have to clip the sub to death trying to drive the amp to do more then it can, under powering causing damage is like saying I can't listen to my system half way up because the lack of full rms will damage them so it's all or nothing! .........................at least that's the line I will be using from here out.

There is nothing like underpowering a sub.

Just run all 4. The doubled cone area will make up for the lack of power. And you can always make a bigger box to increase efficiency.

Naw, he's running a 2nd 70a alt, and an AutoZone battery in the rear. He's good.

Yes, if your amp is sending a clipped signal although the woofer is receiveing 500rms for example at full clipp because the of lack of cooling its approximatelyl like running 1500rms.
