Can small enclosures cramp subs?

It won't damage the subs. My other comment was regarding ported boxes. Sealed are much more tolerant of different box sizes. You should be fine with that 3 cu ft box. If you don't like it you could always just put something in the box to take up space.
I don't think it will sound any better, but probably not worse.
So the bigger the box theory does not apply to sealed? If comparing two different ported boxes, one prefab an another custom. Generally would it make a huge difference which to use??

 
No. Sealed boxes can be huge if you want them to be, but there's no point.

With prefabs you're stuck with the size and tuning, but if they work out for your sub than they can be alright. I'd rather pay $30 and make my own personally.

If suggested port box was 2c but used a 3c prefab, would this sound better than custom(2c)?
