Can small enclosures cramp subs?

yes usaully,

using bigger the box means more bass,

but you can build a box too big and it will not have enough suspesion.

smaller box=sq

big box= spl

There is no set rule as far as sq goes. It depends on the Q of the driver. Some drivers need absolutely tiny boxes and some need very big boxes, it just depends.

Like everyone else says it depends on the sub. Your goal is to find a box that makes the Q alignment .707 for a flat response or right around .5 for a deeper more exaggerated bass.... get yourself BB6Pro or WinISD and you can find out what size boxes those are

I would disagree that you should be looking for a .707 alignment; in a vehicle, 0.8-0.9 is often acceptable to most ears.

To the original poster, look up Hoffman's Iron Law. Of these three things, you can only keep two:

1. Efficiency

2. Low frequency extension

3. Smaller enclosure size

So in general if a sub was placed in a prefab box that was pass the suggestions would it pound harder?

I don't really know what you're asking, but if you use a box that is too big you will have a nasty peak at tuning frquency, nothing else. You need to the right size, not just "big".

If suggested box for sealed was 2c and I used 3c but a prefab would this sound better or damage subs???

It won't damage the subs. My other comment was regarding ported boxes. Sealed are much more tolerant of different box sizes. You should be fine with that 3 cu ft box. If you don't like it you could always just put something in the box to take up space.

I don't think it will sound any better, but probably not worse.
