Can ported have the same SQ as sealed?

Hi there... can a ported enclosure have the sound quality that a sealed enclosure has? I ask this because instead of having 2 subs in a sealed enclosure I can have 1 with a ported enclosure and get about the same SQL output with less $$$ on subs and amps...

I've been hearing that going ported over sealed gains about 3db's, which means double the SPL....

THX in advance...

It just depends on what subs your talking about. But yeah some subs can sound can sound very close to if not just as good ported. Usually ported will be noticeably louder but the twice as loud thing is a pipe dream.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have a trailblazer and a friend also as the same car, he installed 2 13w7 and 2 Mmats 1400.1 and good **** it they pounded and had extremly good SQ...

I would love to have that kind of SQ but with less output I don't mind...

you should have about the same SQ but with far less output seeing as how he ran 2800 watts and your going to run almost a 6th of that. yeah a buddy of mine has a pair of IDMAX 12"s running off a zapco c2k 9.0 and **** that thing hits harder and cleaner than anything i've heard before. i'm ditching kicker and getting zapco thanks to him. but ported can be a 3-5 db gain can also be closer to like 1-2 it all depends on the box built my man.

Actually, an increase in 3dB is double the volume just so you know

12W6v2

Fs= 25.0 Hz.

Qes=.480

Qms= 7.1

Qts= .45

Vas= 2.82ft3

Xmax= .65inches

85.9 db SPL

Re= 6.75ohm

Dual 4 ohm voice coil

400 RMS

Driver displacement 2.5 liters

Recomended sealed

1.25ft3

Recomended ported

1.50ft3 plus port 1.5x12.5x29

Hope this helps...

If you actually use this reccomendation, you might actually end up with better sq from a properly built ported box. It needs somewhere around 2.7 cubes (i havent plotted it yet). if you go ported, id suggest about 2.5-3 cubes, tuned to about 30 hz. The only part of the reccomendation I'd take from them would be the port area. So use a 1.5 x 12.5 port, but the length will be different.

what do you use to calculate box size?

You should use 4" to 6" diameter port for a 12" sub.
