Can i use the Alpine KCA-420i?

I have a Alpine CDA-7998 Fantom Face head unit that I just bought on ebay. Im a music freak and have a billion songs on my apple ipod, I would like to take them in my car, and would like to use the KCA-420i so i can control them through the head unit. But I dont know if it will work on my head unit because im not sure if its a 2004 model, but it was the top of the line of its time. Pleas help me out if anyone knows for sure.

I wouldnt be objective to using just an aux input instead (its probably easier to control from the ipod anyways, because im used to the controls) but i would like to charge while i drive!

i think the ipod conector is for 2003 hu and newer, so i do beileve my iva 8001 or whatever it is too old

well Alpine listed that 2004 and newer would work but my 2003 9815 works fine with the kca420i
