Can I power 2 sundown SA 12"a with this amp?

These SA's are 1 ohm each according to my DMM. But when I bring powers and grounds together I believe it drops to 1 ohms , does this theory sound accurate ?

They are d2 wired to 1phm each. They arnt single 1ohm woofers

For that I might as well just use the car amp, lol - I get your your point though.

Except you don't have a car amp doing 2000watts... This thread makes me think your slow in the head lol. I'm all about learning and teaching but dang. Not hating though we love noobs

Yes

that means when they are wired parallel, they both drop to 1 ohm. when they are wired parallel with eachother, the impedance is split down to .5 ohms. When you wire the subs in series, the impedance will now double to 2 ohms. You will never have a 1 ohm load with two Dual 2 ohm subs. I highly suggest you learn to properly test thing next time.

Here, read this real slow ..... look at my post above ....I never stated I would run my alpine at 2000. I will set my peavy to 44 volts which would simulate the alpine.

Thank you for the break down Jeff and I'm actually at work so not currently testing.

Your alpine wont do 2000 watts no matter what you set it to do
I realize this

Too many people trying to tell him what to buy and do rather than just making suggestions.

We all gotta learn from trial and error and he seems to be on the right track.

You can always go to rockfordfosgate.com or 12volt and it will help you with wiring options. Just make sure your subs are truly dual 2 ohm.

As for the amp. Dont get something you are not sure you can power. No reason to run a bigger FSD when you can more properly support the Alpine. The Alpines run fine, do rated, though they do run hot at times.

Other than that, just do baby steps. As stated before, a larger box will help a ton with compensating for less power. Now if you think you are going to upgrade electrical and want to have higher potential, then go ahead and grab one of those FSD or a stronger amp in that class.

I did a little test just to give myself an idea and it actually sounds pretty good. I only turned up the volume about 60% (vs 75) and set gain at 37 volts ( supposed to be 44 for my set up) on a 60hz tone and it sounded good enough to test on the alpine. I even got a little headache going.... So like many suggested , try the alpine and go from there , well I shall. I still have to build the box so have a gap in time before I can get to it .

44 volts is equivalent to 1000 rms X 2 ohms = 2000 & square root is 44 volts. The alpine amp is 1000 rms so 44 volts is the rms for this amp and it's crazy what 44 volts does to these 2 sundowns in this generic box. I'm actually underpower in at 44 volts. Now I know why sundowns are so popular. These beat so hard that I'm actually cautious while dialing up , feel like something might blow. Putting 55 volts would be 1500 rms which is what is ideal for these subs but then people say that they easily handle much more. These things are gonna tear my van apart , lol . I love my JL's but right now I'm getting why many call them over priced subs.

Now people go easy on me but what about these hifonics amps ? They're cheap and have some good reviews on sonic electronics, I know they sell these at frys so it's always nice to be able to return if needed. Everybody and their grandma seems to have these out these ways, very popular .

???? No. You need to read up on AC current you can't say exactly how many watts a sub is getting by using volt measurements...

But good call on keeping the sundowns. They are very solid woofers. Just make sure you don't send them a dirty signal if you do decide to overpower them.

Again you need power at 2 ohm so a 1 ohm stable hifonics amp isn't helping you out.

That's why I recommended the 2 FSD700s strapped - they'd give you a clean 1400+ watts at 2 ohm (when strapped at 2 ohm, each amp sees a 1 ohm load) and they're still priced reasonably. They're also made in Korea by zenon - they're much more durable and reliable than pretty much any Chinese amp
