Can i fix my HiFonics?

Possibly but I wouldn't just go and assume that without running all the traces within the board to figure out exactly what it did.

Send an email to HiFonics and just ask them the specs. PG was nice enough to give me the specs for a blown diode in an amp I have. Worth a try. For a nominal fee they might even send the right stuff to you. I'd probably still send the thing to them to be repaired unless it was cheaper to get a new amp.

FETs aren't bad to replace if you can solder, unfort. that's why I have a dead amp and two fet's just sitting here lol.

Tracking down what parts are gone, and getting those numbers, and finding the part are the hardest parts.

That is what I heard. 1 thing doesn't just break (and go up in smoke) without other stuff probably going at the same time. I see a resistor there as well that seems smoked right next to this transistor.

Juan

I've heard when mosfets go, something either 'took' them or 'goes with' them G/L.

i looked over the whole board.... im talking the entire thing for 45 mins to see if i could find anything that is burnd up... i found only that FET and the resistor close to it ... could be cheap to fix and i can solder good... id rather spend 20 bucks to see if i can fix it than be out 260 bucks and always wonder if i could have fixed it or not... what sucks the most is that i got my 9855 the day before it fried.... and i thot my system was done.... **** was i wrong...

Just cause you can't see anything wrong, doesn't mean that all is fine and dandy. Something caused that resistor and FET to go *poof*
so true.

Send it in. Just because you think you can solder good doesn't mean you can fix an amp, I'm sorry. You need at least TRAINING in electronics repair to start this. Tracing circuits, basics of EE...that kind of stuff. You can replace the 'burned up' piece, but like I said before, whatever caused that to happen, or whatever happened when it burnt, will happen again. Best advice I can offer.
