Can anyone help me figure out what went wrong?

Got a new car, 96 eagle talon with 115k on it. Bought some new equipment, and kept some of my old stuff.

Pioneer 7600MP

Alpine SPR-17S components

DD 1008A 4svc in .75net box tuned to 38hz (design pulled from DDs site)

Diamond Audio D7104 http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Diamond_D7104/

4awg running from batt to amp - 100A fuse hooked about 8-10" from battery)

Battery tested at 14v prior to install, autozone tested alternator and said it was good prior to install

Ch 1/2 hooked up to Alpines

Ch 3/4 bridged @ 40hms to DD1008a

Spent some 12 odd hours installing everything. I didn't take any shortcuts. Bought all equipment and install supplies prior to doing the install.

Drove out to Portland to get new box. Had comps hooked up and tuned mids and tweets individually then together. Gains set about 60% of the way up. Hooked up 1008a in box and tuned. Everything was working great, played it for about an hour during testing and then on my way home. My buddy came over to hear it and we were driving around for about 15-20mins, then all of a sudden I hear sparks and smell burning, pull the face plate off of my cd player, and pull over to shut the car off. Check fuses, everything is fine.

Amp now puts out pretty much nothing. Turns on, no protect light, but puts out some thumping kind of noises. Either way it is now blown. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. Possibly be a ground issue? I grounded it to a sanded piece of the unibody. Big 3 wasn't done yet, but was on the plans to do next (waiting on more wire to come in). Lights weren't dimming almost at all. Any ideas?

Also, in 6 years, I have never blown an amp. All my other installs I usually took short cuts because I got in a hurry to get it done. This time I took my time and did it all properly (other than not finishing big 3 prior to install).

the problem is its a dsm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Turbo'd?

What size fuse did you have on the amp? All the wires were connected at the amp nice and tight and didnt get loose and touch?

No turbo, NA. Its a very basic car, manual everything! I put 22-25k miles, 75% city on my car a year, so I tend to rag on them a bit. I usually go through cheap cars like this every 2years. Mechanically this car is extremely solid, babied, no rust, ALL mantenance done with records. Got a steal on it for sure.

Anyways, everything was very tight. All connections double checked prior to turning it on. Only thing I forgot to mention was on the first test run everything was going well, then I hit a bump while driving down the rd and it cut out. Went and double checked the connections and amp would turn off when the ground was moved. Took out ground, redid ring connector and reconnected to amp, and problem fixed. Nothing could've shorted out as far as I could tell

100A anl fuse connected 8" from battery. Fuse was not blown.

Well, crack it open and take pics. You maybe had low voltage at the amp? Maybe one of your fuses wasnt completly blown but cause a huge voltage drop.
Will crack it open tonight. Lights weren't dimming at all, or at least noticeably. The D7 has a regulated power supply as well, so a possibility it just pulled more current as it needed it if the voltage dorpped too low. Trying to get an idea of what ot look for tonight when I take it apart.

So I assume you ran a DMM across it?

No actually I did not. Just a visual inspection. It was getting kind of late last night when it happened. So I pulled the amp out, reconnected the battery, and called it a night

maxi fuse sorry, not ANL

I usually do a visual inspection first but if something blows I run a DMM across the fuse if I think low voltage was an issue.
Gotcha. Yeah, I have done almost no testing or anything at this point. It was 1030pm when this happened, and I was fairly tired from being outside all weekend long. usually best to do it with a clear head and rest for the night before trying to work on it. Anyways, I have a service call, will be back around in 2 or so hours to check back.

Resurrecting as I finally took the amp apart last night. The ICs on the side of the amp, looks like 1 is definitely blown, another possibly gone out. My question is, I see some scorch marks on some of the solder points for some resistors, and another IC on the board itself. What are the chances of those resistors etc having ot be replaced as well? Also, where would I get replacement ICs for this amp?
