Can a starter essentially "freeze"??

Well, can it?

My girlfriends ford escape wouldnt start this morning (it was exceptionally more cold last night than it has been). It doesnt even turn over. It ran fine last night.

The weird part is, its not the battery/electrical system. When you turn the key in this car, nothing dims, as if the starter isnt engaging (ya know when you start yer car and the lights dim a bit until its running? that doesnt happen).

A friend of hers had the same issue last year, her celica wouldnt start/turn over. As soon as we parked it in our garage overnight, it fired right up

This car doesnt have an aftermarket alarm system or anything either, so i doubt its any kind of security issue.

Check the ignition fuses. My truck did this last month. Everything would turn on, but when I would try to crank it, the starter wouldnt turn over. I checked all conections and everything got spark. Turned out to be a 15a fuse under the hood.

That was my next step, but she doesnt have a manual, so im trying to find a fuse diagram on google, lol.

You can check with a DMM. Ground the black cable to the battery and start poking the fuses with the red cable. Make sure the key is on though.
i'de rather just find the fuse slot and check it, spend as little time outside in the cold as possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

She doesnt have a layout of the fuse box under the fuse box cover? My truck does.
they layout has them numbered if thats what you mean, but i don thave a manual to tell me which number is what. I found one online though.

F17 was the ignition //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Oh, my truck has them named, as does your Avy.

Is it freezing over there? Maybe a connection froze and is keeping it from sparking. Not sure how possible that really is though. Just sayin.

My relay went off too BTW. There are more than one fuse for the ignition system.
