Can a LCD freeze?

Those cheap lil sony head units with the small lcd they sell at best arent good in the cold. It says not to use them in weather below freezing or the screen could crack. my friend has one. in the winter the image is kinda slow. since its so cold it doesnt move really quick. they recommed you warm up your car first. he's dumb though and never will. kinda like the jensen subs he's pushin with a legacy amp.
