Calling all SQ competitors!!!

i'm curious as to how sq competitions work, is it all by ear?
Yep, most of the time . There are RTA contests at some events, don't know if any org still has rta as part of it's basic sq comp anymore. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Depends on the organization, class, and the judge. Sound only should never be judged by sight. I know it has an effect, but it shouldn't. I have beat cars that looked a lot nicer than my own though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the eyes thing was a joke .... used to be (and maybe some judges still do) you were judged a lot by the type of equipment you were running and where/how it was installed. Back in the day, I had a grill in the middle of my dash (with no speakers behind it) to help improve my center imaging scores. It worked with every judge but one, I don't think you could get away with that now. Most orgs offer RTA scoring as a "side show" nowadays.

If you go to the competition org's site, you can download there rules. They are very descripitive on how each thing is judged for sound quality and install and exactly what rules you have to follow for SPL testing.

Yea i know, only reason i say that is because some do critique the install and blah blah. Which makes for even more subjective judging.

I agree , you get some good ones every now and then though luckily //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Would that 13W6v2 be too big for a good SQ vehicle or would the big SUV be filled well with the sub? Or should I do a 12''? Or another line all together?

Also since the rears won't be used is it necessary to fill holes in the door and get as detailed as the fronts? Ill still deaden them but don't want to waste time sealing the holes if I don't need to.

You might put in a cheap pair of coax's back there and run them off of deco power for any passengers that you might have. But, I'd shut them off before entering any comps, as it will mess with staging.

The W6v2 line is a great sq driver IMO. (yes, I've owned one) however, if you have not bought it yet, I'd say go for something like a SI mag or maybe a ID Q. Those are also great sq drivers that won't set you back as much, and give you more money to put into other things. Remember, we are not looking for big bass here. We don't even want to notice there is a woofer back there.

I wouldn't even do that. I've ridden around with people w/o rear speakers (I mean these were stock ones) and I could still here them fine.

**** fine SQ sub IMO.

nope //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Alright, cool thanks! Ill probably just keep the stockers back there. I will stick with the JL subs because of my 10% over dealer cost deal I get from my old boss. Out of Kicker, Alpine, JL and MTX I feel the W6v2 would be the best SQ sub. Correct me if Im wrong.

And I can get the Stinger Roadkill Expert with that deal as well. Would You guys run the roadkill, RAAMmat or Second Skin products? The Damplifier is kind of expensive.

Thanks!

I use the damp pro. Good stuff IMO. Never used the others, so I can't comment on them. If you can get a good deal on the w6, I'd say do it. I had mine in I belive 1.75 ft^3 sealed and it sounded very good. Def top 5 of all the subs I've ever owned.

I looked into the RAAMmat and I've read reviews that say its awesome and I've read stuff that says its junk. Idk...I've worked with the roadkill stuff, Its good stuff but even with my deal Id get 40 more sq ft of RAAMmat for $30 cheaper! 120 sq ft RAAMmat $250 shipped vs. $285 for 81 sq ft....

I want the 13W6v2 because I still like to jam once in awhile to some rap and want that option. a 1.75 sealed box would be good for SQ and still get down when I wanted it to!
