I understand all of that but my question was why a shower? What's the point?

My last house had a shower in the basement..........granted it was a refinished basment, but still...........

There is nothing wrong with it really for a Secondary bathroom, especially if you don't have any more room in the house or want to add on. Many people do this SM, you should know this............since you know everything and all.

My last house had a shower in the basement..........granted it was a refinished basment, but still...........

Well I have posted pics of my house on here from back in the day, so I guess my opinion does mean shit.

I have since sold it as it was too small when I ment my wife (which I am sure you fegs will hate on more......same broken record.)

I wish I would have kept that house now though and just added on to it, but oh well, I will just get something better down the road.

i didnt cut the garage in half.. i actually gained about 10 sq ft.

when you look at the old pic of the garage entrance you can see how close the old wall was to the inside of the garage. i moved that back about 3 ft.

all in all i made the garage bigger. and the north east corner of the basement smaller...

i allso installed a 8ft long shop light every 4 ft. i have them all on there own switches so i can control how mutch light i want.

8, 8ft long shop light's for only 35 sqft of garage area FTW!!

i went over kill on the light down there.. it's bright as **** and i love it tho..

A quick question now that you mention it Seth. How do you install a shower in the basement, like how does the drain work? I have a 1200 sq ft empty basement that I would like to do something with. I would like to add a few bedrooms and a bath on one side, and the other will be the laundry and family room. My sewer access is above my basement floor level, so how would I get the drain water to run uphill? Forgive my n00b-ness on the plumbing subject.
EDIT: To clarify, my city sewer access is about 3 feet above the basement floor.

What you need is a sewage ejector pump. its like a garbage disposal combined with a sump pump. Usually like a 50 gallon plastic drum sank into the floor and the shower, sinks, toliet are plumbed into them. Then the pump "pumps" it up to the main sewage pipe for discharge. Only disatvantages is the noise of the pump when operating and the associated cost of running the moter. btw, the drum is sealed and vented to the main vent pipe or its own vent pipe depending on state codes.

another option is to run a new main to the city connection. This involves digging down and out to the main city line. $$$$ . Also providing the city line is still below the new grade. Which in most cases it is if other homes in your hood have basements with plumbing.
