well so the story goes......lately i have been making some bad cuts for one reason or another so i figure, HEY my aunts insurance client owns a pretty good cabinet shop from the rep they have. we contact them and ask them if they would do it, they say yes VERY willingly. his words were "tell him to bring the wood down and we will rip it on up for him" NOTHING ABOUT PRICING HAS BEEN SAID!!! drop it off, its cut, they call and say its ready. they also say "the cost is going to be 100 dollars." we were shocked as hell as they didnt mention price even when my aunt asked about it. we figured, my aunt has gone to the shop a few times on business to personally talk to her clients, hell even take the main guy to lunch to talk things over.

we cant back out of the deal cuz then im down 50 bucks and no box. an possibly my aunt lose there business with her insurance company. i figure if its off by ANYTHING i am taking it back down there and getting a refund for the labor charge they claim AND material cost.

i agree .. 100 bucks for cuts god u could buy awesome tools with that much money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

100 to spend a few minutes cutting some wood? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Doctors don't even charge that kind of rates //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

and it was supposedly a friend of ours. well...business friend i guess. my aunt goes above and beyond for her clients, INCLUDING THEM, and they do this to us. I gave them a diagram of the finished build and the cuts, and my aunt specified "he wants them cut" nothing about assembly. so if it is assembled....i dont think i will pay for it.

maybe if the wood was included in that cost i would be almost worth it. i figure $25 to have it ripped for ya is way more then enogh.
what a bunch of assheads.

if wood was included, id expect 3/4 HDF not MDF. nothing is worth 100 dollar cuts. except maybe a 4x8 sheet of oak with wood included and ripped. i would pay that to be sure its not a weasted 30-40 sheet of wood.

Live and learn I guess man, never agree to something when you dont even know the price //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

the price was not given, even when asked. therefore there should be no price. the guy i guess (have not asked my aunt) told her not to worry about it. if its assembled, im not paying the full 100. if its off at all when i assemble, im going to go back and get money back. i understand paying 25 bucks to rip everything, possibly 50 as it was a good size box and 2 full sheets of MDF.....but 100?????

yeah i had kinda the same situation I dont have the tools to cut my wood so a carpenter was doing work for my mother and we struck up a conversation and he was like yeah i make speaker boxes all the time. He was cool he went and pick up the wood for me in his truck and everything. He make it seem like he was helping me out. But the when he got down to doing the cuts he was like I want $150 for cuts and assembly, I was like all i really need if for you to cut (theres no way im paying him $150 on top of the $70 material cost) Anyways long story short he got pissed cuz i didnt need the help on the assembly and he said he wasnt gonna do one with out the other and then just left the mdf up agaist my house Now thats a a[bsshole for ya

dude, I'm sorry to hear that. The cabinet shop I use charges $48 for a full sheet of MDF, cut however you want. I always got quotes until we just came to that figure.

edit... 2 sheets WOULD be right around the $100 mark. I hold them to the .00x inch cuts though and they've never been anything but perfect. All the stuff I was doing at the time required MUCH bigger cuts than I could/can do on a table saw.

i wouldnt honestly have ANY PROBLEM payin 100 dollars to have the wood bought and cut. thats 25 a sheet for wood and 25 for cuts, not that bad. but I BOUGHT THE WOOD BEFORE HAND!!!! thats what kills me. i spent 150 dollars today.

I agree if it is off at all bring it back and say where's my money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I also agree that you should have to pay for the cuts. Maybe they'll give it back for being so scandalous, but as you mentioned it could cost your aunt a lot more than $100 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
