C&D Technologies Batteries

Well I just called the C&D battery place..She asked me what I was using them for , I said a car stereo, she said it won't work and there huge batteries.. there not meant for stereo use..

well.. ?
She is right. They are not made to constantly cycle large amounts of current that is needed for car audio. There is a reason why they are cheaper than most batts, its because they are designed for batt backup systems and telecom systems etc.

Sure you can use any 12v dc batt for a stereo. But they will definitely not last as long as a batt that is made for automotive use.

I would bet that a C&D has around half the lifespan of a Deka, Optima, Odyssey, etc when used for car audio...

Also the Ah numbers for 'non-automotive batts' is misleading. A 125 Ah C&D is not the same as 125 Ah Kinetik for example.

I wish I would have known this before I bought mine. I might have got a Kinetik 2400. What is the difference though?

Amp hour is the same as long as its over the same amount of time (usually 20 hour discharge rate) so you're wrong there.

also the batts have a 10 year lifespan so even when not used as UPS batts, they'll last just as long if not longer than the drycells you mentioned.

in addition to this, unless you are running tones all day everyday the battery will get recharged by the alt and won't be deep cycling so the battery's life shouldn't be compromised.

Ah ratings are only the same if you are drawing the 5-6 amps that the batt was tested at. When you draw 100a from your batt it is a completely different story.

Good luck with your 10 years. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Why would the C&D place not want to sell them for car audio?

Just wait till it starts losing capacity, give it a good charge, then sell it to some poor guy on this forum like everyone else does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

they don't wanna ship freight. My local dealer will sell me anything I want, as long as I pick them up. when you talk about delivering, things change.

I'm using my second C&D tech batt in a little tiny civic. I went from major dimming to none at all. I've used Kinetik and optima, neither brand performed better than the c&d tech batts I've owned.

Aren't kinetiks over rated though? I thought there was some sort of lawsuit from powermaster or something like that, about them 'exadgerating their ratings' or something like that.

Well. I guess I'm not sure who to believe here.

I'm trying to:

A) avoid paying extremely marked up prices on kinetiks locally

B) not have batteries shipped from the USA. Shipping is too expensive.

I feel alot better now.

i love my c&D's...I have 3 of the 135aH ones, and theyre beasts. stock alt with mla module and with full tilt drop to 12.9-13v playing the RD 5750.1. they sit with the car off 12.8v all night. they let me play 3/4 volume with the car off for at LEAST 2 hours (as long as i've done it for) and still sat at 12.4v....idc if they last me the full 10 years. honestly, for the price i paid for them, if they last me 3 years they are still badass to me. only downsides IMO are weight and color and neither matters as long as they perform.

I think kinetiks are overpriced at $200+, I can't imagine paying $900, what a rip off.

I wouldn't say kinetiks are overrated, they just aren't any special. All drycells aren't created equal, but C&D definitely makes a great batt. just call the company back about the high rate max ups batteries and see if they'll let you buy those. If they aren't willing to work something out with you, try ebay. I see tons of drycells on there, I'm sure someone sells to canada.
