Bye Bye Alpine

So you want him to go without tunes, hassle with egay and the mail instead of the top notch shop that that got him back going with very little problems.
gave him bad advice

sold him an amp that did not work for his application

charged way to much

sold him another amp then charged even more also way to much

^^^ does not sound top notch to me.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

as for dealing with ebay. if you do your research and buy from a reliable seller you should have no problems. i have been buying for years from ebay and never had a single problem.

No shop out there can sale at the ebay price and some brands they can not even buy from their distributor for the ebay price.

MSRP on the alpine is $850 so He got a fine deal in the first place.

Alpine says the amp is good to 2 ohm, so if the subs were wired close to that then it should have been Ok, But the amp could have been defective from the box (it does happen) if that were the case then nothing was sold incorrectly and in the end they were able to get him going with only a small amount of trouble.

First off, you said you are running 3 CVR's. What is the coil config for each sub?

When I ran my PDX at 1.4 ohms it would play fine, but if I turned it up too loud or if at a certain volume where it did fine with say a 50 Hz note in a song and it played a 32 Hz note in a song on the same volume, I would have problems with the amp shutting off. I set my gains sort of by ear, but mainly used the volume on the HU as a limit, took some time to figure out what is a reasonable limit I can play my subs at.

The PDX isn't an amp that you would put in a luxury vehicle as you mentioned, but more of an amp that you wouldn't abuse. The RF will take some abuse. It will also stay VERY cool, good choice on an amp.

And to those telling him to go buy off eBay, sure it's cheaper, but what would he do if something were to happen to the amp or any of his other equipment he purchased from an authorized dealer? Even if he can exchange the amp, he would have to ship the amp at his expense, wait several days, and hope they send him a new one, not a refurbished one. Buying from a dealer, you have the convenience of taking the amp when you want and getting it swapped for a new one.

Sure, you spend more money, and you don't need warranties if you know how to treat your equpiment properly, but if for any reason it was a manufacturer defect or that rare chance of something out of the blue happening, you will be covered. You end up paying more if you buy an amp from eBay, it gets messed up and then buying another. It all comes down to how much security you want. Personally, I have bought plenty from eBay but mainly because I was buying quite a bit and if I bought from a dealer, it would have been out my budget. It's a game or risk we all play should we go the eBay route, but realize its the dealers who help keep the manufacturers alive.

buying from a authorized dealer is nice because of the warranty. But the warrenty is only covered if they install it(at least the shops around here). SO spending 200$more on a amp and the install on top that will pry bring him 400$ or more. I would rather buy ffrom ebay and have a warranty, install it myself and have 400 more in my pocket.

I bought my Zapco's authorized, and they let me install it and still be covered, but it is worth having the dealer install them, because some people swear that they know how to install equipment but really don't. And generally, if the shop is good and has good customer service, they will work on you as far as pricing goes for installment. Installing an amp doesn't cost much anyway. Last time I got one installed, which was maybe 3 years ago, was $50 to install an amp, which included running wires. If wires are already there, I'm sure it would be cheaper.

Sure, for the total noob let them pay the extra $50 installation, $250 retail profit, etc. But this site is dedicated to people who do not pay others to install their equipment.

I hope the problem was with the amplifier itself, rather than a low voltage problem. If it was low voltage, that larger RF amp will only make things worse.
Volts was not a prob, was tested at hvy load, im useing 0/4 power line , doing the big 3 with aught ( sp ) this weekend, as far as prices go I as a new person geting hvy into the car audio scene with a better than average set up am going to pay the extra cash to be covered localy for 1 yr without any problems, im sure as time goes on ill get more knowlage and feel safer buying from unauthorized dealers, but for now thats how I gota roll, but for now im selling the subs and box mabey look into T1 12's or T2 12,s , thats something id do without going through a dealer, I just wanna slam man )) thx for the input

I understand your point, but do you think some of the people on this site, like the ones asking if Pyle is any good and being serious about it should install an amp? People like I would recommend not installing their own stuff. Chances are, if they don't know the equipment, they more than likely will not know the proper procedure of installing an amp.

I wouldn't go for the RF subs. Their amps are nice, but there subs aren't as great. I'd look into Mach 5 Audio. They have several drivers that can suit your needs and the prices are insanely cheap.
