Bxi2607 keeps going into protect

I bought it used off a member here pretty recently, and it worked perfectly until today. Randomly my subs cut out, and I was thinkin they must have blown or something which would **** like hell...but then noticed my amp was in protect. I felt it, and it was not even warm, room temperature. So I took out the remote wire, went and took a DMM to my subs to ensure they were reading proper resistances, plugged back in the remote wire and let it play again. It worked fine for about 5-10mins and then went into protect again, still no heat on the amp or subs. Now it keeps going into protect within anywhere from ~5-30min (probably a total of 4 times).

Its stable down to 1 ohm and I'm running it at 2.67 (4 ohm + 8 ohm in parallel). Only things I can think of that might be causing any kind of problem are:

1. Mixed impedences (though I don't see how that matters)

2. Amp vibrates when subs are hitting hard, but not enough to be visually detected or anything crazy like that.

3. I'm on stock electrical (big 3) running ~1200 rms, but I have a voltage display in my cig lighter which hasn't been dropping below 12.5v and usually maintains above 13 (even with system at full tilt)

Really could use some help cuz I'm worried about my amp/subs...

1. Did you set your gains properly?
2. Its a hifonics.
1. Using dmm as voltage reference/listening for clipping (stopped before I even got to clipping because I was already ~10% over subs rated rms

2. I know hifonics isn't the best...but its not like its garbage. Why would it be going into protect, but playing fine when its not in it and not heating up?

my 1606 when i first got it always whent itno protect after 5-10 minuts. never figured out qwhat was wrong with it luckily it was under warrenty and i guess it was a peroblem with the amp itself since hifonics sent me a brand new one

make sure you got a good ground.

all paint scraped off. had this problem with a kicker i installed the other day. no matter what i did it would go into protect becauseof the ground so i decided to go ahead and scrape the paint and it worked flawlessly.

Well shit I hope its not that, cuz i'm pretty sure its not under warranty and I dont even have any proof of purchase or anything

Come to think of it, I did switch my grounds around when I did my install yesterday (2 channel amp ground swapped with the bxi ground, and only the old bxi ground was cleaned properly), so I'll definitely try that, hopefully thats all it is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Cleaned off ground and made it a better connection, has been okay so far, but I only could test it for ~15 mins, I'll test more tomorow probly and hopefully it stays out of protect...still open to suggestions of what could be wrong/how to fix it (in case the ground wire wasn't the problem, cuz it really wasn't that bad).

did someone from hifonics put it in ur butt or something?? u really have a vendetta against them

on the other hand, I have the same amp, and mine went into protect once, and that was because of a voltage drop... I really have no clue, let me know what happens though

How low did it drop? Maybe it was the ground being bad because I noticed it only went into protect on higher volumes, and if the ground was bad it may have been seeing less voltage than my display in the cig lighter due to the high current/resistance of a bad ground.

btw, sexy *** amp, no? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well shit...just drove to the store, it seems to do fine if I keep the volume at ~40/62 or less on the HU (I use 50 as my "max"), but when I push it all the way up to 50 it cuts out within a few minutes...

I tried unplugging the 8 ohm sub, so it was just running the single 4 ohm, still cut out after a couple minutes on full volume...i really just don't understand because it was fine for about 3 weeks up till today, and then randomly starts crapping out on me...plus it doesn't even get hot or anything, I can just turn the car off and start it up again and go for another few minutes without issues.

Do you think its bad (damaging) to the amp when it goes into protect like this? I mean its not overheating or anything, I just hope its not making it worse everytime it goes into protect...

I didn't see you mention testing with dmm at the amp (volts), but thats what I'd do. Some gauges are really far off.
Yea I checked it and it was fine, drops down to 12's but no lower than that, in general my amp voltage is usually ~.1 higher than the display on the dash, and at the battery its about .05 higher than the amp.

Today I connected all my wires, every single one, and made sure they were all clean, fresh, tight connections. Played the amp at full tilt for ~20 mins and it didn't go into protect once, so I hope that might have worked. Maybe something was loose and the rattling caused it to slightly disconnect every once in a while or something, idk...hopefully it stays protection free

Drove around playing it more today...lasted about an hour to an hour and a half, and then started going into protection every 5-10 mins again...It only does this at full tilt (or close to it), as I said before, if I leave the HU at ~40 volume or less (out of 62, I never go higher than/set gains at 50), then it doesn't happen, or at least hasn't yet...SOMEONE I need a suggestion...
