It doesn't seem to respond differently based on whether I'm playing test tones or music, seems to work as long as I keep it at overall below ~80-90% of its full volume. It also works completely fine other than the fact that it goes into protect. It doesn't heat up, puts out great power, not a huge amount of voltage drop, even at full tilt, but after some random amount of time it'll just go into protect. Then I can reset it and it'll work fine for another 5-10mins and go into protect.ahhh. might be a problem that one of my 2607d's had. try to play a sine wave at full volume and see if it works. on music does it go into protect at higher volumes? and it works at really lower volumes?
if it vibrates i would for sure move it (after you get it working). i would first try to eliminate everything but the amp. so try to put it in another car that you know everything works in. i would also call maxxsonics and ask for mike steirs and talk to him about it. the final step would be to send it to cia engineering (call them first) to get repaired. i used to run 4 of these amps in a competition setup. because i ran them at .5 ohms i was always having trouble with them. costed about 80 bucks each time sending it to cia.It doesn't seem to respond differently based on whether I'm playing test tones or music, seems to work as long as I keep it at overall below ~80-90% of its full volume. Only thing I can think of right now, other than there being something wrong with the amp internally (shit I hope not...), is that it vibrates quite a bit, especially because its mounted to the back of my box for 2 sealed 18's. Its not like shaking or rattling or anything, but if you touch it you can feel it vibrating quite a bit, could that possibly put it into protect? (also fits with the fact that it only goes into protect on full tilt).
Well I'm only running them at 2.67 ohms, I'll e-mail them. The problem is, I can't tell for sure if its doing alright or not until pushing it for a couple hours without a problem, and even then its possible that the same thing could happen still. Also, if its being caused by the amp vibrating, it wouldn't happen unless I'm giving it the same or better subs getting at least just as loud. I'm going to unmount it from the box and see if that greatly reduces vibration, and then see if it manages to stay on for an hour+ of total play time.if it vibrates i would for sure move it (after you get it working). i would first try to eliminate everything but the amp. so try to put it in another car that you know everything works in. i would also call maxxsonics and ask for mike steirs and talk to him about it. the final step would be to send it to cia engineering (call them first) to get repaired. i used to run 4 of these amps in a competition setup. because i ran them at .5 ohms i was always having trouble with them. costed about 80 bucks each time sending it to cia.
the vibrations wouldnt cause the amp to go into protect directly. the vibrations would break a component inside of the amp not allowing it to function properly.Well I'm only running them at 2.67 ohms, I'll e-mail them. Thats what I'm thinking now, cuz I dismounted it and had it just sitting on the seat and it didn't vibrate nearly as much and still went into protect...do you think, considering everything works fine on the amp, it just goes into protect randomly, but is fine again after I reset it, and sometimes takes up to an hour before it goes into protect, that it might just be a loose connection inside the amp or something easily fixable like that? I'd really rather not pay shipping both ways and 50 bucks for someone to fix something that isn't even really broken...the vibrations wouldnt cause the amp to go into protect directly. the vibrations would break a component inside of the amp not allowing it to function properly.
Try running the same tone u set gains with and take the volume up to 50 or more and see if it cuts out.Using dmm as voltage reference
What do you mean? I set it with a 45hz tone, and just get it up to upper 50's in ACV, it goes into 60's though sometimes off of music/different test tones. Simply pushing the amp harder, doesn't cause it to cut out. Also, it never cut out when I was running just one MJ, which was much quieter, and I used to push it much harder than I do now, all the way to almost 70 volts sometimes (slightly clipping).Try running the same tone u set gains with and take the volume up to 50 or more and see if it cuts out.
(I am suspecting thats what you meant by your post...that u set your gain by using a tone and calculating the voltage...)
could be. or it could be a bad capacitor. the vibrations could have broken a lot of thingsThats what I'm thinking now, cuz I dismounted it and had it just sitting on the seat and it didn't vibrate nearly as much and still went into protect...do you think, considering everything works fine on the amp, it just goes into protect randomly, but is fine again after I reset it, and sometimes takes up to an hour before it goes into protect, that it might just be a loose connection inside the amp or something easily fixable like that? yea, well dont get me wrong its not like my amp was flexing or vibrating very violently or anything, it just vibrated, kinda felt like a phone on vibrate, to the touch. Assuming its not under warranty or anything, should I open it up and see if there's anything obvious? Or is there any reason I shouldn't?could be. or it could be a bad capacitor. the vibrations could have broken a lot of things
