Buying broken stuff?

Do you know if anyone buys amps that don't work properly maby to refurb or part. I have a busted JL audio 1000/1. It doesn't have a serial number so JL can't fix it and even if they could, it wouldn't be worth it cause I got the amp for 500 when it was new.

It's not screwed up tooo terribly, signals still play through it just very distorted. so it might be something simple. Do you think i could test it myself and figure out whats wrong with it?

I'm going to check around a bit but i'll definitly keep your offer in mind. I just wish I knew what was wrong with it, i'd hate for it to be like a single transistor or something and not know it.

it requires a lot of testing.. one part may look broken but it could be more.. i usually buy amps..so if u want to sell for a good price..let me know

unless you have the proper electrical testing equipment and are good with soldering and whatnot, it would be better to have it fixed by someone who knows what they are doing.

I mean i've got some equipment i've just never worked on an amp before. how much does you buddy usually charge to fix an amp?

Bought on EBAY the serial number sticker was peeled off. i'll post some pics. in a bit.

Some of the stuff I have bought online have the serial numbers removed. I think the online companies do it so it can't be traced back to them and get them in hot water with the manufacturer.

and btw jl will fix it but will charge $50 to re serial it (manditory on amps w/o serial)
