I hate asking questions that I'm sure have been asked a million times. So, after days of research I have come to think I may have bought the wrong item. Understanding that advice is subjective Ill take my chances. I bought a JL Audio 500/1v2 and I wasn't sure if this would produce the results I maybe looking for. I paid about $330 for it and have not installed it yet. I own an Audi A4 2010 and know how to wire subs and amps as I have done it before. My question is would this amp and a 12" hit nicely or would anyone recommend me return it and spend that $330 or even $350 on another amp. And if so which one with what 12" sub? From what I have seen these seem to be great subs: Sundown Audio SA-12's, IA Lethal Injections, DC Level 3's, and Fi SSD's. Basically what I'm asking is what single 12" sub and amp combination would anyone recommend? It seems like $350 should be enough for an amp, as for a sub I'm not sure how much to spend.

can't answer this question w/out knowing your goals... and for $350 I could have gotten you a new amp with around 4X the power.

Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with a 500/1. This forum is full of people who think they need 2kW to be happy.

A Mach 5 IXL or CSS SDX12 would be a nice choice with that amp, IMO.

Depends on what your goals are. If you're trying to be loud as piss, 500 watts isn't going to cut it for most bassheads. But if you're just wanting some nice thump and like the JL name/look, then there's nothing wrong with the purchase, they're very nice amps.

What are your goals for your setup? Are you an SQ guy who just wants something quality to blend nicely with your door speakers, or do you just want something loud that'll bother the neighbors?

Yea agreed. I'm usually on top of my research but I can still return it. I just did choose the wrong websites originally for research. It seemed like a great item but I wasn't sure if it will produce enough power. Then again what do I know about power. I guess that's why I'm here. Any recommendations would be great.

but you're right jizm a jl 500/1 on a moofer with a higher sensitivity and a ported box should be loud as bawlz

also my jl a1400 was decent as hell on a w3 13

get the 4ohm or 2ohm version of the 13w3 you wont be dissapointed i had one sealed and it flexed my bmw

i imagine ported it will flex nuts

I guess I should have listed my goals. I would like to find a nice balance for my sq and spl. I produce music so having great reproduction would be great. I would really like to have nice lows though. I have the Alpine Type R's but I need something new and fresh. I guess with everyone's experience here I guess I would like to know what single 12" sub and amp would be your choice. I don't mind spending $500 bucks and if I need to adjust my budget let me know. But I would like some nice loud thump.

You should be able to get nice bass w/ 500wrms from that JL500/1v2.

You don't need 3k to get good sound.

Depending on just how loud you want it, 500w can easily be enough. I do alot of single 12", 2-12" and 2-10" on 400-700w here at the shop. Actually, that power range is the most common thing I do and w/ the right build it can be loud. I outperform alot of 1200w+ setups built locally w/ half the power.

Just how loud do you want?

I haven't had anytime to do any in store A/Bing and don't have a lot of friends who have systems. I'm staying with the stock head unit and speakers and adding a LOC.
