Busted subwoofer.....need some advice

Hey yall, whats goin on?

My outer sub lining is torn, an ammo can in my trunk hit it and ripped it. The cone inside the sub isnt busted, just the outside, and its still pushin sound and movin up and down with the beat and what not.

My buddy said the wires from my amp could catch it on fire cause its not pushin as hard as it should, and mad amperage is goin through it and its not kickin.

I have no clue about this shit, and id like some advice. Should i just get a new one? Can it damage my amp? Will it catch fire?

Im lost, id like ahand please.

No it can not damage your amplifier unless your voice coils fry and drop the impedance load, which might be too low of a load for your amp. No, it will not catch on fire... How big is the tear? Some people just put a bead of silicone caulking to patch it up, or you could get a new surround kit. If it is a cheap sub to begin with, I would just upgrade...

sounds like the surround is what damaged. probably easier to get a new sub. but u could get a recone (replace everything except for the metal basket and magnet). i don't think the amp can get damaged or catch fire that i've ever heard of. but the sub will definitely not play correct.

Wait.. your speaker wire can catch on fire because your sub has a small tear in the surround? That's a new one....

Put a little bit if silicone on it and it's almost as good as new.. and you certainly dont have to worry about your speaker wire catching on fire.

Hey guys, thanks alot, I really appreicate it. So silicone will fix it? the tear is about 2 inches..... Im gonna go out today and try the silicone thing. Thanks guys, strength and honor to ya.
