burnt smell

I hooked up my 1501d to my 12" type x yesterday and all was good. last night i was messin aroung in my trunk and smelled something burnt. i smelled the port of my box and my heart just dropped. so i took the speaker out and it smells burnt. i know i wasnt overpowering it because my gain was not even halfway. WTF is goin on here?

Gain is not a volume knob... I ca set my gain all the way down but if i crank my HU volume max i can still get a clipped signal.

I am not familiar with type X but what is the RMS (NOT MAX) of those subs...?

i set my amp how the sticky on this site says. all hu settings at 0 and hu volume at 3/4 (which is 30 on my hu). i never turn it up past 25 anyways
