Burning smell (wood)

So I was driving home from work on Wednesday, and I start to notice a burning wood smell (MDF)............ any idea's what could be causing this????

I had the volume up pretty loud (louder than I have previously) and it was loud for about an hour......... my amplifier was almost too hot to touch, but I don't believe it's the amp as it sits on a carpeted area of my box. So that leaves the sub?? its a 10" in a sealed box running on about 300W RMS........... once I noticed the smell I turned the volume down, and have not had a chance to use it again until today when everything is working fine.

Could it be some sawdust in the box burning off? I find it hard to believe that a part of my sub gets hot enough to burn the solid wood of the box? Either way, it had (has) me worried as a burning smell is never a good smell.

I get that for the first hour or so of hard playing with a new box. My theory is its the sawdust left over inside the box.

you might want to take the sub out and check for black marks

yeah ive had that smell 3times and everytime i smelt it i burnt the sub into the magnet. you better watch and take it easy on that sub.

2. is it a ported box?
