Burning smell coming from subs

Ive had 2 L7s for prolly 3 months now, and all of a sudden, this past saturday I started to smell sumthin burning in my trunk. So I checked it out and the smell was coming str8 from the box. I pulled both of the subs out and the magnets were hot, I checked all the voice coils and they were still connected and they DIDN'T have a burning smell, What could this be???

digital multimeter. It checks the ohms of your subs to mak sure you didn't blow anything. I won't worry too much. L7s always smell when they are pushed too hard..... I have a friend, his whole explorer smells like the back of the L7s, but they still play fine...

you can get dmm's for 10 bucks anymore, so I would invest in one if I was you. But yeah, it could be just the coils gettin hot, or you could be damaging them with clipping or something, so check them with the dmm.

they're dieing. I remember one night playing my 12" strike pretty hard at a fast food parking lot and started smelling the stink of burnt coil. Funny thing is it still lasted amost half a year of the same treatment after that.

I was told my 1100d wasnt enough 4 both of them and all of the coils are still playing. I smelled the subs out of the box and the I didnt smell anything but tha magnet was hot. I checked each set of coils and they all are playing fine, but They are hitting harder that usual tho. But y all of a sudden????

I'd say whoever installed and tuned your system, have them go over it again. If anything on the amp changed (if it is in trunk, and an item got ahold of Bass boost button, etc.) you could very well be pushing your subs easily into distortion/clipping, regardless of the power your amp can provide to the sub. If your overpushing a signal (pushing amp too hard, i.e bass boost on, Gain too high) your sending that to your subs, which without proper tuning, cannot cool themselves down fast enough. Hence the heat and smell.

I would really turn off any sort of bass enhancerf and push them, if they still heat up, then I don't know.

that burning smell i've smelled alto on how many subs i've blown my last 2 years prolly cuz my gain was on max for full power or the subs couldn't handle anymroe power and the box was a ported one with a 5 inch hole in it, didn't even get deep bass, pile of crap it was

The way I set it up was that everything on the radio was down low as possible and the crossover is right at half-way. I got the amp close to max but not all the way, any suggestions???
